It is a few years since I installed my motorised set up & I want to make a
few adjustments to try to get Hellas 39E. The only thing I can't remember
is whether the motor should be set at 0 when aimed at Thor or whether it
should be set to 1 W to get the correct arc.

Thanks

Usually driving the dish to 0 resets the memory, so after you have done this select a weak FTA channel on (say) 1 west then adjust the dish and motor on the pole for the strongest signal.

depends on your location , as there is a formula for this , and using 1w at 1w would only work on the 1w longitude , or using zero would only work on the greenwich meridian

alternatively use usals if you can and input your location and then select thor

usals will move the motor to the correct point for thor , and you then line up on thor , knowing that when this is correct , if the arc is also correct , the rest will fall into place

Thanks for replys. Motor at 0 & thor signal at 98%. My longitude is 1.5 W so
I presume I have to make ajudstments by moving the motor west & re-
aligning to Thor. Is this correct?

Thanks

at 1.5w thor is 0.5 degrees east of you at 1w , so set the motor to 0.5e and then try it , but for half a degree you wont see much difference

your zero should point true south

as echelon wrote!
if motor at 0° and aligned to Thor @ 0.8°W = diseqc controlled setup.
Mark where the dish arm is pointing now if you going to change to Usals setup!
If you use Usals enter your location as accurate as you can in the receiver (latitude and longitude)
Select Thor Satellite on receiver. The receiver will now drive the dish to where it calculates Thor @ 0.8°W should be.
Now slightly loosen the motor bolds on the pole so you can move the dish East or West and move the motor/dish so the dish arm is again in the position it should point where you marked it before. (Turn the assembly by hand: don't use motor control to move it). When you have the signal strongest: tighten the bolts again so the motor is fixed. While you are at it check the dish inclination again for it strongest reception at Thor @ 0.8°W. And check that the LNB skew is at 0°.
If all is aligned correctly (dish pole: plumb, ...) that should work.

Think I've got all info I need to sort it now. The best thing I ever did was
to move dish to ground level which makes things far easier to play about
with. Armed with spanners, signal strength meter & patience to tweak
dish.
Thanks for speedy responses.
