Thanks for getting back to me mickstery. I dont have a network to scan, I have installed the box now and i can watch FTA channels. I only connect the box to my router to connect to the internet which is done from here I have no glue as to what to do next to unscramble channels.
Is there a network I can connect/subscribe to for this.

Hey,
The satellite which you are watching the tv channels on will have a network , within the network are the tv channels.
So for example , if you are trying to watch sly uk but are missing some channels , such as sly sports 1 , what you would do is scan the network to find this channel to add it to your list.
What satellite are you viewing the free to air channels on ?
Your friend is most likely talking about card sharing. This is were you will connect your satellite reciever to your broadband internet connection to communicate with a server. The server will have access to legitimate or non legitimate subscription cards to a sole provider or many providers.
The information from the subscription cards will be read a distrubuted via the server to its peers who are able to access tv channels from a sole provider or many which they otherwise would have to subscribe to themselves.
There are various way of going about this.
The enthusiast/hobbist way is ideally to have a small group of friends with subscriptions to different providers and share among themselves. This is would be ideal but not everyone will have the interest or be in a position to do this.
There are then pay servers. You pay someone a fee to access to a server, this will then give you access to what you wish to view. (this is most likely what your friend is talking about).

Hi, Thank you very much for you answer, this explains why I have lots of people viewing my post but not helping at all. Am sure you answers will help a lot newbies.
I am watching FTA on Astra2 28.2E, Eutelsat 7E (for my country channels - senegal) most of which are encrypted with viacess.
As for my box I have managed to connect it to the internet, I can telnet it or down updates and addons from the internet direct into it.
But with your useful answers I know what to look for now
