After this recent change over most of the service + now freezing all the time for me. i did not have any problem before,

Try switching Service+ off, then do a reboot from the menu,then switch it back on usually works for me.

But is was my adsl line, internet line or phone line that was bad.

Perhaps you can check your router and see what Line Attenuation you have?

I don't have problems - don't know where you get that idea, not read that on other forums either but some people do get problems as with any box but then most of it is the user not the box

Just observing the truth about this box from a simple Google search...

Only the Saturday 3PM kick offs are encrypted, on Tring, all the other games are shown, but personally I prefer viewing on other channels, especially the TV2 PL 1, 2 & 3 HD channels on 0.8 West.

Just a shame that the TV2 PL 1 channel doesn't have English audio, for the live games, but all the other programmes, including the weekly review, and replays of the games, do have English audio.

If you wanted a HD receiver for feeds I would have thought the AZ Box, VU+ Duo, or even the Dreambox 800, or 8000, might have been better options, of course these would have cost a lot more and wouldn't offer the gift.

There is a known problem with viewing some feeds, as I discovered when trying to tune in the TV2 PL feed, which worked on other receivers but not my Spiderbox.

I haven't checked a lot of feeds, especially HD feeds, so I am unable to comment further.


Last Saturday was disappointing but wasn't unexpected, everyone was warned of the upgrade and is given an extra two weeks gift, as compensation, for the disruption.

I also read the problems with freezing, before buying a Spiderbox, and was pleasantly surprised.

Some channels do glitch, or even freeze, producing the scrambled channel message, but mostly this was the Digital + package, 19E, but since the change over to Service+ began things are improving.

The SyFy channel no longer freezes, new HD channels have been added, and last night even Fox HD didn't freeze, one of the channels I've had the biggest problem with.

The Canal Sat France package, 19E, I've found to be very stable, as have the channels open on 0.8W.

This is a honest appraisal, of the receiver, as I have nothing to gain, and bought my receiver from Goldwafers.

I agree, the picture quality is simply fab and thats SD and HD and it beats the sly hd box hands down and it does 576p which sly does not. On your location its very important to get the best possible signal quality and this has been true of all sat receivers. I am on the fringe so for 0.8w I use diseq to tweak signal above 50q and it works.

Like all software driven boxes there will come a time when computer has to be rebooted, router rebooted, printer switched off and back on, and spiderbox rebooted. The spider takes seconds to reboot and on occasions switch power off at back. Its a hobby but the benefits are enormous.

And when changes take place there are bound to be glitches, just look at a board about sly boxes, box wont boot, wont turn on, dead boxes, overheating, noisy fan, losing recordings, the list is endless, capacitors bulging, etc etc. I have an old pace box and it was buggered by a latest software update, went back to old fine until sky replaced old with latest, box ... useless, goes into standby every night and facility cant be switched off.

in my use of it I dont see much of this freezing that other members SAY is out there on the net

yes it is mentioned a lot , but generally its down to other factors , whereas what mickha said earlier seems a more fairer assessment of it

I watched the man utd game on nova sport on 13e the other day with good picture and little or no problems at all , english commentary too

just watched PL1HD on 1w ( stoke game ) and it was fine , then swapped to 30w for the inglesa channel with english commentary , and again its absolutely fine

it now has the 3pm spurs versus wolves game on it , again in english , so definitely a 3pm match available there !

the moral of the story is do not believe hearsay , stick to fact and facts !!

yes there were problems with the changeover but we were warned about this so its not a factor in this thread

I have found bulsat seems to freeze momentarily , possibly a few others too , but in general it works in a manner expected of this type of service , and yes you will find problems on official forums about official boxes too , thats the trouble with technology

for the price compared to others of yesterday , its a good box , cheap for what it is and can do , and a lot cheaper than my old samsung 9500 viaci , irdeto cam , elvis programmer and a gold wafer , never mind its much better abilities , nuff said

my advice to those who havent got one , dont believe everything you read , buy one , test it , then say what you think about your own experiences which will then be factual and not hearsay , like I have just done

well after last weeks problems with tv2pl channels,i watched my beloved wolves in 30w in glorious hd,pity my team was not as good as the hd picture
anyway back to topic,yes the box has got a few niggles that have to be sorted out,but on the whole its a very good piece of kit.i dont watch thor that much to be honest as the film channels aint that good in my oppinion
but the other sats i do watch i must admit are normally problem free,as echelon
stated in his post about the samsung9500 it was the bees knees in its day
and it cost us a a lot of money,if i remember correctly i paid about £50
for a m2 card to watch channels on thor many years ago add to that the price of the elvis to programme it,then i really do think that for what we can all get on this little box is truely worth every penny and i have had many sat recievers in my time and none so far have given me as much to watch without bying extras such as cams,cards.
