Could any member tell me if the 6900 Combi (non super) can pick up the Irish RTE digital test signals. I live in Ireland but have very poor analogue reception. Any help greatly appreciated. TMULL

Im in west waterford, on analogue i had only two poor channels, now after getting a 7100 HD box i have clear digital at about 70%. I did change the antennae too just to help, new downlead too. Just waiting for TV3 to come onboard. anyone got any news on that front?
Use loop through on Technomate and connect antenna on receiver and then to TV.
Same principal would go for receiving DVB-T: if red blocks change yellow & blue, you would get a working signal. Probably you can use this to adjust your antenna to the transmitter. Check for close transmitter near you and its polarization (V/H).

Thanks to you all for your input. Maybe it is an antenna problem but I cannot pick up a trace of the signal. I havent used the loop-through as suggested but if I cannot scan them in with the antenna connected to the Tecnomate is there any point.Would anyone point me in the best antenna to look for? I live in a natural hollow and my analogue signal is poor.Is there any plans for these channels to go on satellite?. TMULL
It is a little bit like satellite reception, line of sight: you would need the antenna above the transmitter's horizon. If you live in the valley or at the foot of cliff: reception is problematic.
RTÉ confirmed yesterday that it will launch its DTT multiplex a bundle of TV channels to be called Saorview — to the public from early next summer.
Around the same time it is expected that the national broadcaster will launch its Saorsat satellite service which will provide signals for the main domestic TV stations on a free-to-air, unencrypted basis.

You should be able to pick up this trial with a amplified portable aerial placed near a window facing towards the transmitter closest to you as the signal is very strong about 4 times stronger than analogue. Also the final transmission type could change between now and launch date as has happened before and after all it is only a trial at present.
Don't buy any new satellite DVB-T gear or HD tv yet as there is a new standard coming for HD DVB-T2 and old units of Mpeg 2 origin will not work.

And yes ,I do live in a bit of a valley.I wont post again until I have some news. Thanks again. TMULL

What is Saorview?
Saorview is the brand name for digital terrestrial television in Ireland. It is estimated that Saorview will be available to 98% of the population by late 2012. Saorview is transmitted from land based masts and is received using a UHF aerial in conjunction with a compatible digital set top box or TV with integrated digital tuner.

Tmull Ignore the last comment by Darkman as it will Not Affect you in the Future.....
If you can tune in Tv3 with fairly good reception (even with the old rabbits ears, then you stand an Excellent chance of getting RTE1,2 + TG4, + news 24 and all Irish Radion station VIA Mpeg4 (TV3) will come on line soon as They were transmitting a while back) but there is some litigation that they are going through at the moment.......
I dont think Saorview are goint to ditch Mpeg 4 for Mpeg Five after all the investment so far as stated below.......
As England uses Mpeg 2 and Ireland Uses Mpeg 4 those living on the east coast of Ireland and close to England also report geting Mpeg2 channels on their Technomates !!!!!
I am closer to "Corcaigh" so can only get the Irish broadacsting services for now on a seperate Mpeg4 DVB box minus TV3 for the moment but its only a matter of time before they too will come online. A friend of mine also gets them with his 6900 super.....:cheers2:

Darkman You Don't live in Ireland , so why would this affect T.M users in Ireland ?:beatdeadhorse5:

Total rubbish, and irrelevant if you live in Ireland or France or any other other countries that already chosen MPEG-4 for DVB-T HD reception
As plessy already said, they are not going to suddenly ditch millions of Euros worth of transmitters, after already having chosen MPEG-4.
A lot of Europe already use MPEG-4.

Hello Martin !
Glad to hear that you are getting the Broadcasts also via Terrestrial;)....
But there is a Myth out there that you need to spend even more money on a New Antenna which is gob****e...
If your Old antenna can receive TV3 with a relatively good picture, Then You WILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS....
Spin Doctors and Electrical Outlets/Sellers are trying to cash in on this also......
Test With you existing Antenna set-up and/or Move it to Opposite position in attic or Roof top BEFORE buying New antenna....
Everyone these days is trying to cash in one way or another....Especially Major retail outlets who's checkout counter clerks Don't Have a Clue.......:D
Do NOT Dump your old Antenna before you fiddle around with it first is all I am trying to get across.....:sifone:

I am up and running with my Tecnomate6900. All tests with my old antenna failed. I bough a new UHF antenna and new cable and did a test with the ariel sitting on top of a bush in my garden. Got a signal of about 40 persent and scanned the channels and lo and behold it works great.Already a better picture than my analogue ones. My brothers are fitting the new antenna weather permitting tomorrow so I shall give an update in a few days. Thank you all for your good wishes and support. TMULL

New antenna now installed and signal levels above 90 percent. Absolutaly brillant quality pictures. My old antenna was about to fall apart and in all probility had water in the cable. The Technomate 6900 is still a great box,and I say this even though I also have a Spiderbox. I really love this forum for the friendly way the members help each other. I never feel intimadated like I do on two other forums. But I have learnt not to post so often on them. Thanks again to you all. TMULL
