I've copied the .ts / .dx / .rap file set off but nothing I have will play them. I've tried VLC, WMP. I'm specifically refering to HD recordings.

On a friend's laptop the files played with a commercial app Arcsoft Total Theatre (or something like).

What are people playing these with? Any recommendations for remux tools to convert to MKV? TSRemuxer and AVIdemux didn't do the trick.

VLC player will play the .TS .TS1 etc files....

.dx, and .rap are indexing \ marker files, and are not video files.

you can queue them up if yuo have many .ts files in VLC player

It's more about the codec than the app so many viewers (incl WMP) can handle them if the right codec is installed. If the video is on a USB memory stick you will need USB2 on account of the data rates (or you can transfer the file to the lappy first if you only have USB1).

The two apps mentioned above have inbuilt codecs so no need to worry if you have their latest versions.

I'm still struggling with this. It appears the TS vary between broadcasters and TS Remuxer will not touch the ones I've copied off the box.

*Solved*

The HD TS files can demuxed with EAC2TO and then TSRemuxer can remux to a file playable by WMV and VLC

For ref. the 'correctly' muxed output is described as 'H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (Part 10) (h264)'
