Correct: no external powered hard disc (power supply provision)

I´d like to ask if there is an option to put the drive into standby after a few minutes?
I ask because my hdd is quite noisy, when watching TV lately it´s disturbing and sometimes louder then the tv speakers. The hdd goes into standby but it takes more than a hour, an option with manual hdd standby settings would be a great solution...
I´m using a WD 500GB hdd with 7200rpm.
THANKS!

if you use small (3.5" or 2.5" form factor) USB 2.0 hard disc, not externally powered and you put these behind the STB, you would hardly notice it. Most have there own power management. No longer use my My Book Home Edition 500 GB Hard Drive, now spare drive on computer. Now using cheap (£50) Packard Bell Silver 320 GB on STB.

Get ready to replace your noisy HDD - might want to move stuff off it onto your PC HDD for safety - noisy drives are a sign of failure looming

Not the RPM, all my HDD's are 7,200 RPM (Internal & External) and run quiet - mind you they are only about 1 year old drives (all drives replaced last year due to 2 x HDD failures)
