Hi. I'm trying to setup a swap file on a usb drive - I've been told this should help performance. I've added a 1GB drive and formatted it on the Dreambox & rebooted.

When I try to add the swap file in the blue panel, the only option I have is the internal hard drive and not the usb drive. Any ideas? I'm using Dream Elite Phoenix 1.33.

Thanks :hat:

have you mapped your usb in device panel can you see it in device manager?

Yes - it comes up in devices manager (along with the internal hard drive) and I was able to format it.

How do I map it in device panel?

Thanks!

it seem likley you might have done it its in device manager 2x blue device panel 1x red then mount point setup press left on rc you should see the option then save and then try setup swap fie

That was the problem - didn't know how to set the mount point by using the left button. Thanks a million mate :)

I could then see the UEB drive as an option for setting up the swap file and I've set it to 64MB. The box rebooted and it is set to 'enable swap at startup'. The status tho is shown as 'inactive' - I'm guessing that it only chows 'active' when the box is actually using the swap file...

There's a button to ACTIVATE it . It's the red button on mine .

Hmmm...

I've 3 options - Activate (red), Delete and Autostart. Pressing the red button does nothing and it still shows as Inactive :(

try autostart and restart the box

The 'enable swap at startup' option is checked alright and I've rebooted the box a few times - still inactive.

I have an internal sata drive fitted - should I try setting it up on this? My problem is watching and recording HD at the same time. I would have thought that using the hdd for the swap file would only make things worse...

i have the same problem watching hd content and recording hd at the same time, sd stuff works fine,i have swap file setup on usb [256mb] didnt see alot of diffrence to be honest if you set it up on hdd your hdd will most probable be active all the time you could try setting it on your hdd to see if the swap works not recommending you leave the swap file setup on hdd just to see if it works try setting a bigger swap than 64MB on usb see what happens.

It worked ok on the hdd alright. I'll try later to set it up on the usb. Strange...
