I have a Sony TV with 2 HDMI sockets, I have my Home Cinema connected to one, and my HD Sat TV to the other. I now want to upgrade my DVD Recorder to a HD version but have no additional HDMI Socket available on the TV.
I notice that the Y,Pa/Ca, and Pr/Cr TV sockets are available, and HDMI to Component Cables are available for sale on a number of sites. If I used one of those cables, to connect a Sony HD Recorder to the Sony TV, would it give me HD Pictures ?

When you say your homecinema, do you have a dvd on it ?
You can connect your box and your new recorder on both hdmi, and connect the spdif (optical or coaxial) digital output in to your AV amp.

Hdmi to Component ?? Strange, because hdmi is digital and YUV is Analog !

I have a Sony TV too which is about 4 years old and it only has one HDMI input.

I bought myself a Yamaha amp which has 4 HDMI inputs and one output. To the amp I have connected two HD satellite receivers and a Blu-ray player. I've still got one HDMI input spare, I might use it for my Nokia N8 if I ever get round to filming anything.

I just switch sources with my amps remote control. That allows for upscaling & HDCP to go through to the TV from any device I connect to it. it's your choice but I wouldn't mess around using anything but HDMI when decent amps don't cost much these days.

I am more puzzled now - If HDMI Signals are Digital, and the TV components input is Analogue. How can a HDMI to Component input cable ever work ??

@ Micko50 - Good idea - reminds me of the old scart distribution box days !!

These cables don't work for this purpose! Getting analog signals out of HDMI port!

Only HDMI HDMI to Component Video Converter would work. These cable are only there to route Component video over HDMI cable, very few devices support this.

This HDMI to Component Cable does not exist and there is no such thing as an HDMI to Component Cable! If someone is selling an HDMI to Component Cable don't buy it as it can't 't work.

This is a customer service page to prevent you from getting ripped of by others trying to sell you a cable that will convert HDMI to component as there are no HDMI to component cables as electronic converters must be used.

If you need to convert an HDMI video signal to component see the below products or our HDMI to component converters.
This HDMI to Component Cable doesn't exist because:

HDMI is digital with pulses and component is analog with waveforms so an HDMI to Component Cable won't work
HDMI has 19 pins and component + audio has only 5 so an HDMI to Component Cable won't work
HDMI has the HDCP copy protection signal whereas there is no component equivalent so an HDMI to Component Cable won't work
A cable is a passive device made up of 2 connectors, solder and wires. It cannot convert one digital signal into another analog signal so an HDMI to Component Cable won't work
Don't buy an HDMI to Component Cable from anyone as it doesn't work!
Keep in mind any converter used must be able release signal with HDCP or when signal is (c) no picture will show
