I have noticed on several occasions when doing a software update a blindscan update being listed.

I use the Pli image.

I've seen that lot's of folks mistake NIT for blindscan...

NIT scan really has nothing to do with what is commonly known as blindscan.
NIT scan means that the receiver software dumps the NIT (Network Information Table) section of the TS-mux which is located via the reserved pid 0x0010. Either TID 0x40 (actual network) or TID 0x41 (other network) or both are read in and parsed to obtain transmission information from the network/provider. NIT is one of the DVB SI (Service Information) sections. Depending on how much information is contained in the NIT section, a NIT scan can be more...or less affective.

in simple terms...when performing a NIT scan you are simply tapping into a standard part of the DVB standard which via the TS stream provides information about the networks frequencies.
