external hard drive recording

I have a fat 32 formatted hard drive problem is when i press record button the word rec is shown on the box, but the picture on screen just freezes and only when i press the off button that the picture returns to normal
any ideas

When i press record my picture freezes for a split second then resumes to normal picture as rec shows on Spiderbox, are you saying the picture freezes and remain frozen all the time ?, usually to stop recording you have to press the square symbol stop button which prompt the message do you want to stop recording but you say you are pressing off ? you could try reformatting drive though Spiderbox menu but remember you will lose any recording you have store on there.

It totally freezes i do press the square then it returns to normal,i have formatted it many times without any change its a odd one maybe someone else will have the answer

You don't say what brand/model of ext HDD you have - I read that some don't work on the Spider
