Hi

I have been out of the game for about the last 3 years ever since my dish came down in high winds. I would now like to get my dish remounted and start watching again. However I do not seem to be able to locate anything to replace the nackered polar mount/drive. (stub axle - if that is the right term - sheared

What do you recomend and where to get it from.

Thx for any advice.

ps I was using an Echostar 8700 to drive the dish. No idea whether it is still up to the task.

You could try southern satellite, but if the mounts not available, I got mine many years ago from satellite **********, along with a 1224 H-H motor, all still going strong, they're generally a bit more expensive but did have a large amount of stock.

The honest answer to your question is that you are up the creek.About this time last year on this forum I think (but it may be another one) a member posted that he had tried everywhere he could think of to replace his Andrews polar mount ,required to mount his 1.2 Channelmaster dish. He came up short and as he lived in Belfast ,I think he tried a N.I. Co an low and behold he got the last one in stock. As I have mine in use for about twenty years I did an examination. As I live on the coast in Ireland the salty moist air had played havoc with the mount so I contacted the member for details of the outfit he had got it from but was told that they had sold the last one recently and could not scource another supply from anywhere. I then spent about two months on the internet trying to scource one but came up empty handed. I did come across two second hand ones on that well known auction site but each came attatched to the large dish and shipping something that large to Ireland would cost an arm and a leg.If you are based in the UK this might be worth a try. As I was very worried that mine was about to pack uip I decided to make my own.As a fairly competent woodworker but not a metalworker,I came to the conclusion that if it was made out of wood i could make it in a few hours. Not being a welder, but capable of stickink a few pieces of metal together with a welding machine I set abourt aquiring the pieces of metal that I would need. I made timber templates of the angular pieces and cut all pieces out with a mini angle grinder. I made a timber jig to hold the pieces together as I welded them together using a mates machine. Took the assembled mount to a galvising plant and twelve months later my original is still holding up so the spare is still in my workshop. I did photo all the parts before assembly in case anyone wanted to do the same. A half decent workshop would knock then out in no time and I am admazed no one has taken on the progect. Sorry to be so longwinded but ask some of the big satellite suppliers and by now they may have sourced some. It helped that my dish is only eight feet off the ground so I could measure the parts and aslo the fact that I had all the tools apart from the welder. TMULL

It appears that some satellite outfits are at the rip-off game.It appears that they will sell you a polar mount for about 100 quid as long as you buy the dish as well for 300 quid.Has any member bought a polar mount on its own in the past twelve months? TMULL

is the the metal arm that the actuator mounts to is bent as you can replace that piece and the actuator quite easily.

there is one place that do have a polar mount for the channel master dish but it costs about 150.

tmull, no I was lucky enough to get a jaeger 1224 motor from germany when they was available.
