Ok this is a nice idea..
Lets get it started...

Installed 1.0.2 today on a friend's Azbox Elite (old mb)
connected to a sony lcd tv....

- I must say that motion adaptive is not working well
either on old mb boxes or some tvs

Picture quality is awful on HD... (Sly it)
looks worse than SD...

- Still have crashes when zapping on Nova gr...
3-4 zaps and cogwheels appear...

- Audio syncing looks like it s fully fixed now
didnt have any problems yet

- Time still faster


other than that
the rcu seems a bit more responsive now
and menu navigation is a bit faster...

i have a Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-40S4100 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV and an azbox
prenium the SD picture is fair but the HD is very bad i have tried every firmwear ever made for this box. and tested each one carfuly. the picture quality is a main issue for me
or in other words that is why i bought this box in the first place just for the 1080p.
this box had only one firmware blueray quality that was 3877 and all the others vary..
the second best one was 4829 and was only 80% as good as the first.

TVC 1-2-3- WERE near hd quality on 3877 but are pale on 1.0.2.

so i hope nobody tells me to change the tunner or the TV or any other parts

installed RTI 1.0.2 after a month with E2 1.0.28.
I have old Mb elite model.

SD quality very good IMHO
HD on sly Ita really poor (sly ITA is 1920x1080)
HD on HD Suisse is good (HD suisse is 1280x720)
(tried both setting the box to 720p and 1080i)

Sometime switchin to SD channel from HD cause the box to crash (Cogs of death)

If i change audio on a channel i have to zap forward and back to activate new audio

Audio sync very good

Sometimes when i reboot i got a pink screen and after that all channels (and menus) are "pinky".New reboot is required.

CCcam 2.2.1 (client) works like a charm

Media Player great as usual (i play a lot of standard 720p USA drama like Fringe, NCIS and so on). Subtitles works good.

Streaming from PC to AZbox works fine (cifs)

i have the premium as default with firmware is 720 i changed /etc/init.d/bootup to 1080p50.
the resolution stays the same even though the setting have saved.
1080p on bootup, but still apears as though its still in 720 in sd ,hd flickers abit interlase maybe.
in other words picture quality on premium is not as good as before, resolution wise..

These days i use AzBox (elite model- august 2009) mainly with meidaplayer.
i watch 720p mkv only (usual USA tv movies) with english subs.
Mkv runs smoothly with sharp picture quality, and i can activate subs pressing "AUX" button on RC.
Subs runs fine, sometimes cogs appears and the player misses a line but after that all is fine. (2/3 times during a 45 mins movie).
I'm actually satisfied with MediaPlayer quality

You don't get what do I try to say.
It's a problem of bad quality of Sly IT (and all other channels in the same resolution).
It's not about some boxes (old mb) and TV's because NO ONE did report a good picture on Sly IT HD. (If someone did, please find me that post)

The problem exists because is used a deinterlacing line doublers filter !

You can improve vision by setting resolutions at 1080i60 or 1080p60 ... but you can still see the effect if you look at the titles or subtitle!

We have to wait to make a fix available that gives the possibility to choose the method of interlacing or ... as it's before!

Only seems to work with XMLTV files not not opentv but this should help

Nobody has mentioned any sound problems I'm getting distorted sound again after watching channel for a few minutes. Switching channels corrects this.

The problem of the distorted sound is when you start Enigma2 after a standby ... at least for me!

The sound is distorted after a short and then disappeared altogether, even changing the channel .... the sequence is repeated ...

To resolve this anomaly should redo a reboot!

same for me, when i go back to RTi Beta 1.0.1 the hd is good perfect on canal+ france can***** france also perfect hd,canal digital.nl perfect hd sly uk perfect hd
i test it on premuim on tv Sony KDL-46Z5500 full HD and on premuim+ on tv Sony

I NOT think AzBox can have a better video drivers than those in the 1.0.1 image.Perfect HD on SAT.

Tested and compared with :

The quality is comparable with the DM8000/DM800/VUDuo/VUsolo and DM500HD

The latest drivers are not OK.The worst so far.
In my opinion it is better to use time to fix other problems
primarily audio problem ( still is not 100% OK.)

I know, but every channel have different parameters, even get same resolution. Also at Hispasat, you have ZON channels with 1080i and MEO channels with 720p (I think, I dont know this only by my mind).

I believe the key to understand the problems with HD channels is the bitrate.
I low bitrate will give you a very poor HD display no matter the resolution.
Different providers use different resolutons AND bitrate,sometimes cannot compare.
Maybe if you load bitrate plugin and also report the bitrate of the channel in question,then will be easier to understand why this is happening.

videosize 1440x1080 works good others canal like canal+hd have videosize 1920x1080 works very bad even more bad than SD canal and the same probleme with sly It and also canaldigital nl and also on sly germany and uk very bad hd when i go back to firmware beta 1.0.1 every think is ok can beter because i have DM 8000HD the hd on is beter

Run smooth.
Picture HD/SD fine (23.5 C+ NL)
Sound is sometieme's gone but "resolution" button does the job.
Multimedia player: MP3 ok / MKV ok / Avi not ok.
Sometime's Cogs of death with zapping/ wakeup after standby and medialayer.
Good improvement in compare with RTI 1.0.1.

have here an HD+ (nagra card) running and i have to use oscam, because newcs can't handle this card.
card is recognized,initialized and everything goes well and i can decramble the channels, but after few minutes i am always getting this message:

then i have to restart the emu and after few minutes i am getting the same message again and again...

someone had this already?

I've only just tried this version today, but found the media player a joke.

MKV 1080p DTS file lost audio sync, and the gears kept coming into play.
Eventually the audio gave up completely and had to abandon watching the movie altogether.

DTS does not seem to work either as I only got PCM audio.

It downloads ok but still does not load backdrops tryed various versions with initial crash so loaded the fix from htmls (thanks loads for this)which fixes the crash but no joy.
I know it sort of worked with alfa release so maybe somethings have been changed in python or something else from previous versions maybe htmls may know what's missing or DS team could bring out newer version as media player player works fairly well with some minor probs (Well done to Ripper and team)

AVI’s and MKV’s are multimedia containers, capable of holding many different formats. It does matter what’s inside of the container (what type of video/audio codecs have been used). Then come other (of no less importance) issues: video resolution, aspect ratio, frame rate, video bit rate, audio sampling freq, number of audio channels, audio bit rate, etc. Hence the reason for some beta-testers being able to successfully play AVI’s and whatnot, while the others couldn’t play the same formats at all.

I did some testing and current E2 media player plays well AVI’s composed of:
video: DivX 5/6
audio: MP3

Also, I tried Full HD MKV with video H.264/AVC and two audio tracks (the same audio, but in two different formats: DTS and AC3). With DTS audio couldn’t play longer than 5 secs. When selected the other audio track (AC3 5.1) all went well – it was a Metallica live gig taken from a Blue-Ray disc.

I've tested this image with 3cam as descrambler (ver 2.0.11, 2.1.3 and 2.1.4) with enigma2-plugin-glasssysutil_2.39.
I remember, when I've tested with older E2 images (1.0.28 or 1.0.29) I haven't problems, no blocks or if blocks appared, it was only for few seconds.
Now with RTi 1.0.1 and 1.0.2, when I use 3cam, after some minutes, the 3cam stop to work for many minutes or until I reset the cam.

I've tried with oscam 3077 I've compiled for dm800 with dvb-api enabled and I haven't blocks, only sometimes but for 1-2 seconds.

My provider is SlyItaly.
Does anyone else have my same problem?

i use 3c 2.2.1 with any block.
I did manual install without glasssysutil.
3c is connected as client to 2 servers (homesharing) with SlyIta, Tivusat and SRG.
My box is an Elite.

I've disabled 3c from glasssysutil and I've started with telnet, but is the same, I haven't tried with 2.2.1 because I don't know if are true the rumors about backdoors.
I have tested 3c in the same your conditions (without SRG).
When I will have time to test again I will re-install 1.0.2, but I'm waiting for 1.0.3 :-)) , and I will test without any plugin (glasssysutil) even if I don't think that this is the problem...

Confirmed, tested on Premium, HD quality is terrible not only on Sk IT but many others too.

Went back to 1.0.1 and HD is OK then.

BTW all 3cam versions I tested ( 2.1.1 - 2.1.4 and 2.2.1 where fine and worked 100% )

Tested a bit more....
Strange things happens..

Changing to "default skin" (that's the name displayed under skin menu) the hd quality on slyIT improves a lot but every now and then audio sync is lost and i have to press "resolution" button to regain audio sync.
Changin to others skin picture quality is crappy but audio is good....

Test done on SlyIt FoxHD and SlySport1HD

I setted default skin and now on SlyItaly HD channels appear quite good.

Some problem with audio:
1) after reboot sometimes no sound, but with "Resolution" key I get sound
2) sometimes after reboot I hear on every channels a metallic sound, but with new reboot I get right sound.


Tonight, I left the receiver on all night long, this morning I turned on the TV but there was no A / V, but from the logs I could see he was still working, and I could still control it by remote control.
Nor does the reboot command from telnet it worked, I had to turn off the rear switch.

AFAI see in VU+ forums today, this skin problem is a common and known issue for E2 images.

Just my idea, I think the best skin for E2 should have no color transitions, and be quite opaque and simple not to effect the image processing routines..

I did more test, if I leave on the same channel, after a while, even if I can see that descrambler is working (I see my osc@m's log), images are blocked and if I try to change channel, COG appears and the only way to unlock azbox is to turn off/on.

Everytime I leave TV off, when I switch on, TV shows "no signal from source" and nothing to do to show channel image, only turn on/off

I've compiled last osc@m release for mips (dm800) and now everything is good: no block (only for few seconds every 1-2 hour), no signal lost from TV....
I can't understand why 3c has too many stops for many time and even if with mgc@md I havan't stop but after a while no signal A/V to TV.

Since the first beta release E2 is for daily use for me
each one has its bugs but all around with a little strugle it works for me
the only problem is the bad picture quality everything else has a solution

With the RTi 1.0.2 if You setup the default skin, the quality improve.
For normal daily use I think we need the rocording funtion too.

everybody has that problem, with mediaplayer, sattommy is fixing bugs with the spare time he has.
we just have to wait. since nobody wanted to help sattommy coding, he does this all by himself. So...it takes a lot of time.

I dont know if you wrote somewhere on the forum allready, I dont have to much time to read all posts, can you pls be more precise with the problem when you posting, telling me that you lost audio or something else isnt very good, What type of File AVI,MKV etc .., file size ? internal, USB, network playing, File information Video codec,audio's codec , etc ... On what time interval it goes out of sync, it's always on the same value, etc... so be more precise as you can, so I can track down problem if is in my driver or for sattomy in gstreamer plugin.

So for all users wh posting problems just telling it doesnt work, no much help there

Open the MKV with VLC player in Windows/Linux => extas => codec information . There you can find almost all the info about a video/audio file.

i can confirm that .avi files (xvid codec, most up to date) with ac3/mp3 sound (doesn't make any difference what type of audio codec it is), 700 mb fileS, every file i tested (like 15 to 20) movies. Bitrates may vary between 800kb to 1.2 mb/s in each movie.

So, every "common" 700mb avi(xvid) DVDrip after 2-3 minutes (it's always between 2 or 3) of playing ok, sound goes completely off and video starts slow motion. Every single one.

I can't be more specif because there is no need to, it is EVERY single 700mb dvdrip .avi xvid file i tested that has this problems.

Muxing mode : Packed bitstream

Old AVI files I was testing doesnt have this activated on encoding, so it was playing fine, I must now see how to remove this on playback.

That doesnt have any sense Ankarh. Enigma 2 from DM800 is not related with twin tuner or single tuner or combo, it is more related about other things. As far as we are not using DMM Drivers there is nothing similar with DM 800 hw and Azbox ;)

DM 800 build is choosen because of the similarity of the CPU MIPS architecture and speed, nothing else.

Twin tuner can be added for p+ in my drivers, but when it' reasonably stable, right now I really dont need that

Ok guys I found whats the problem with slow video motion in AVI files , its

Muxing mode : Packed bitstream

Old AVI files I was testing doesnt have this activated on encoding, so it was playing fine, I must now see how to remove this on playback.



EDIT: I fixed my driver, must see with sattomy too so he can add few more code lines in gstreamer plugin.

In new driver I think :D I fixed this stupid COG and totally locking box, with new driver I didnt have that situation again, but we shell see when I realised new driver.

Regarding Audio it's much better then before.

Are you watching over HDMI ? Can you maybe switch to analog somehow and test then ?

It's happened another one, no more signal with HDMI after reboot, I've connected azbox to TV with SCART and images appears.
After some zap, COG appears and no more controllable with remote control.

Unfortunately Sigma wrote library for HDMI chips for user space not the kernel space and after some changes I menage to put HDMI library code from user space to kernel space but with some affects in the code.

Fastest fix is to add control over HDMI reinit over VFD display(some type of menu like in original FW ) so when you lost HDMI TV signal you can on VFD see where you are in MENU and choose option you want. This is some plan ...

Sigma have 32 video decoders, I know it should be possible to decode 2 Full HD streams, or maybe 1 Full HD stream and another stream in some small resolution, problem is memory/bandwith and ****ty Sigma API, chip as chip should handle , other stuff I mention affect realization

Wouldn't specs refer to the ability to output SD and HD simultaneously to the fact that you get video on composite and component/HDMI at the same time?

I think it should say that the SOC should be capable of output two HD streams in order to get PIP.
Did you check what other SOC's specs capable of PIP say?
You can try xilleon or broadcom chipsets specs and compare.
In the same note,how many demuxes are available in the sigma chipset the azbox have?

Native language support is kernel dependent in linux.
if NLS is on and UTF-8 is on while kernel compiling everything should work without extra job.

I do not think I have misread the specs. This chip is comply with Blu-Ray and HD+SD PiP is one of the features that the Blu-Ray specs require. But as The_Ripper say it's one thing reading the specs and another to make them work in real life.

one more feedback.
When the HDMI no signal occurs, I am able to view with SCART output, but even if I select with the setup menu the SCART option and then the HDMI option no signal to TV from HDMI port.

Valerie just select the standard E2 skin in 1.0.2 beta from menu you will see that PQ improves a lot.

Is evident you are reading the specs wrong,in the case you are mentioning,and HD and an SD decoding at once already require two decoders,as simple as that.
Many SOCS are dual decoders, and dual display too.

Demuxers and decoders are not the same. However I seem to understand that you are located in the USA. Why don't you just call Sigma up and ask them. I'm pretty sure I have not misread the BluRay specifications (regarding hardcoded HD/SD or HD/HD and HD/SD streams PiP in the same MUX).

- Applied New Audio FIX
It seems to work. I've the first time perfect sound! No distortion after zapping :)
UPDATE: sometimes the sound is gone after zapping and I cannot bring it back because resolution button has no function. I have to switch to another channel and then switch back to get sound. :(


- Interlace/Deinterlace FIX
Picture quality is perfect on HD and on SD!


- CPU 30% usage FIX
It works! The gears doesn't appear. CPU is most time idle.


- Better VFD Support
Hmmm. While booting the VFD shows still strange characters.


- Fixed System clock
Yeah!!! Seems to work perfect!


- Volume UP/Down fully fixed
Works almost perfectly. The only inconsistency is at 100% Volume. If I push volume up at 100% the sound somtimes will fall silent.


- Better overall stabillity
I can confirm very good stability! I have no crash while normal operation (watching TV, zapping...)


- A lot of changes on Enigma 2 ( A/V Settings EXPERIMENTAL , Welcome w_izzard )
After installation I did a factory reset. After this I got a green screen and have to exchange w_izard.py and w_izard.pyo. After that the w_izard worked well!
Btw: nice picture from Azbox RCU :)
AV Settings does not work. After changing the resolution the screen becomes black and I have to reboot. I have to delete /etc/videomodeaz to bring picture back.
Changing aspect ratio has no effect.


- Fixed Multimedia ( MKV, AVI ) now OK
Cannot test MKV and AVI...

BUT... *.ts (recordings from original Azbox FW) will NOT play. That's a pitty because my HDD is full with such recordings (and I suppose not just my HDD...)

Another bugs:
- If I navigate in the provider list I cannot put a provider into my favorits or into a bouquet. The selection is not in the channellist menu so I cannot do it. UPDATE: problem is solved. It was configuration issue in expert settings... my fault...
- EPG still not working completly. After setup CrossEPG in the same way as on my dream800 I have some EPG Information only. My Dreambox with CrossEPG shows my EPG for every channel.

In summary this firmware is a great step forward!!!! Keep it up guys!!! :bravo-009:

Hmm, yes sorry. I might have jumped the gun on the PiP. The SMP8634 Rev.C complies with Blu-Ray profile 1.1 it does (HD+SD), I was under the impression that the SMP8635 also would handle the same. My bad.
