HDMI Lead with Ethernet?

Just got a 3D TV and 3D Blu-Ray Player and got the above lead with it,how does the ethernet part of it work?The TV is connected to my Router so i thought maybe it then sends the Internet through the lead to the Blu-Ray or am i completely wrong?TIA for any info.

i know you can route HDMI signals over cat5,or tv just connects to internet

HDMI is for Digital Video and Audio.

Ethernet is data only.

You can't have ethernet data in your HDMI cable unless you have serious problems with your TV. :confused:

many blu ray disks come with extra online content , maybe your blu ray player has an ethernet plug on the back .

The Blu Ray player does have an ethernet connection on the back but the HDMI Lead states it has ethernet also,this is what im asking,what does it do??

RABBY... 3D is dead already, and going same way as Betamax and HD-DVD.

The Yanks aren't buying into it and dealers have been left with 3D-TV's they can't sell.

Data is data HDMI carries data as its digital its not carrying video and audio signals that's why you can buy extenders that do HDMI over ethernet

As someone else mentioned HDMI 1.4 has ethernet included so you don't need a separate ethernet connection

On my sony the ethernet cable is used for Iplayer

Trouble with the ethernet over hdmi is the sets/blu-ray players have to support it - it is optional. My new Panasonic 3d tv and blu-ray player both have ethernet ports and I got a nice hdmi cable with ethernet but no where does it mention how to get this working (so I only need one ethernet cable from router and then they'd both share it). I emailed Panasonic and yep - sorry but we don't support it even though the newer hdmi cables do :(

Yes ethernet is optional in 1.4 so if your device doesn't support it there's no need to buy a hdmi ethernet cable the normal hdmi cable will do
