probs recording to Freecom mobile classic usb hard drive

this is the latest 500gb model freecom mobile classic 2.5' usb powered. formatted it to fat, the formatted in azbox to linux so all should work like my old 30gb usb1 toshiba. But no, sd will record oon most, but nasn will not. HD bbc/itv etc, record for about 2-3 minutes then whole box freezes up, and when go to see whats recorded -nothing. Tried the HP formatter, the Freecom formatter, tried deleting partitions etc..also noticed some 7.5gb will not be formatted -says its the master record??...so does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?..does this work with anyones else? is there a way to completely format this usb drive?..any help appreciated.:bowing-036:

Just a guess here as I haven't got one but is it because the usb drive needs its own power source and not powered from the receiver? The bigger the hard drive the more power they need. I know the dm800 won't use a usb powered hard drive as the drive needs its own power.
