Not my business but I got to say what great service from both Lee at Goldwafers and from Darkman himself.
Hopefully I won't have any probs with my Spiderbox but its good to know that Darkman will help in the event you do have a problem.

My 9000hd seems to want to switch on when it wants to. At the moment it seems dead, but probably in 10 minutes it will suddenly switch itself on. I have checked the usual suspect the ribbon cable to the PSU, but it is still dead, any ideas.

sounds like a psu problem then, especially if you get the same with no other leads connected apart from the power lead
make sure it has a proper 13a plug fitted, or the proper adapter and not a shaver adapter for continental plugs or actual electric shavers

!3A plug fitted and even tried it in different socket, but still switches on at random.

check for bulging or split caps on the psu

Have just had a quick look and no signs of bulging caps and I have to comment that my father was an electronic engineer and I build my own "super" gaming computers (3930 i7 chip 32Gb ram 1.5 Gb graphic card 256Gb SSD, 2Tb HDD, so I am used to looking inside electronic equipment and the Spiderbox HD build quality leaves a lot to be desired. There isn't a single cap that stands vertical and the ribbon cable are bent at right angles rather than slow bends. It doesn't inspire confidence.

Hi frank1946,
might not be any comfort for ure problem, but my spider 9000D has had this trick from day one when I set it up.....always found it fully powered up in the morn after setting to stand by overnight......so thinking promlem has nothing to do with the age of your stb.....
My quick fix was and still is a remote controlled socket behind the tv cabinet for easy isolation when not in use.....spider is coming near a year old now, and no other probs so far.....
Cheers, port06

Is it still under guarantee? If not try removing the cover, after disconnecting it from the mains, as some spiderboxes had problems, after shipping, with loose power connections, you might have dislodged these.
First I would check the plug, and change the fuse, as one of the wires might have broken, and the fuse could still have blown.

No, if the box isn't booting up, to the F100 screen, then it's a hardware problem not a software one. If it's not under guarantee try to find a reliable, local, cheap, electrical repair shop, that can test the components for you.
