I still Don't Get This, Specifications says :
128mb flash and 256mb ram

Now with last SS83, you can read this :

linux-opendreambox-2.6.18: disable jffs2 summary support for dm800, dm500hd and dm800se to reduce overhead
use full flash memory on dm8000 (256MB) with enabled jffs2 summary for faster mount time
reflash image is needed to use full flash size! as long no reflash was done we switch to legacy flash mapping
use 256M flash memory on dm7020hd
increased size of boot partition on dm8000 and dm7020hd to 7MB (new 2nd is needed!)

dreambox-secondstage.bb:
update dm7020hd (not public yet) and dm8000 secondstage loader to support new flash mapping (256MB support)

Are they pumping on Ram memory, to get the 256mb on Flash ?

Which image is this then Passete? Is it nemesis? Or can you guide us to the image in question? my reason for asking is that ever since the last update it would seem that the 2.2 Nem image has pushed flash onto HDD and it is no more on flash despite flashing? Or have I done something really wrong? It still boots to flash but there is nothing on system as that.BW - Brain

Make a clean Install of nemesis 2.2 SVN 078 (update from blue panel not possible) !
And you see that, on flash you get 256mb, without any other device atached !

Hi there
This image is where I started my thread on how much memory is used in theory or reality a while back. While it has much to commend it for skins, info and features it does seem to arrive surprisingly low on drivers - remember the DVD player and I am still trying to find a driver for the usb stick which firmly remains unfound!! One other weird feature is that often on reboot it will boot up but with no sound. I will try it again as Flash but I think it is now using HDD as part of its flash thereby not causing any problems like other images have if you load them too much. If you go to system info/device status mine reads flash as 1396G with 50G used; ram 148 used 3 free and swap file not found[the usb problem. then says total memory is 404 M with 145 used - 259M free. i am about to load new one onto flash and see what happens. Very odd - Brain

The 8000 had always 256MB Flash but only 128MB were enabled for some reason untill now.
thats what DMM says, still unclear way only use 128MB if realy u could use the full 256MB.
Boot should be faster now and images stable.

that is interesting since that was why I started the thread about memory because trying to use flash as every one said you could it kept running out. I spoke to someone who works for Apple and he said that perhaps there was more memory but not enabled but wasnt sure how. It seems that if that is now on I wasnt so stupid after all since I ahd read all the measurements right. So twice as much for addons now on flash - really no need for BU images to run them, but good to keep them for some variety. By the way DVD NOT working again and I have downloaded all the packet items that made it work again on the earlier image!! Damn!! Brain
