Aim Dish On What Sat??

Hi,
Simple question, i have a monoblock for Hotbird and Astra 19e What satellite do i make as prime focus. I live in Scotland. So should i aim at Astra or Hotbird??

Normally you aim the dish at the weakest satellite, you then get the deflected beam to the side from the strongest, ie astra 1.

With an astra/hotbird setup its doesn't make much differance as they are both strong signals, I've done it both ways and they still work ok.

Hi All set up,
Used Astra 1 as prime focus, all channels coming in loud and clear.
On Hotbird there are some channels i am having problems with. I have 3 questions.

1.With the way i have it set up should the Hotbird LNB be slightly higher or slightly lower than the main lnb? I know that if my system was the other way i would raise the Astra Lnb slightly up. But can`t work it out with my set up.
2. What is the weakest transponder to tune Hotbird with. I am in Edinburgh Scotland
3. Am using a 85cm dish would a 1 meter one make a diffrence

The Hotbird side should be slightly lower, Don't know the weakest TP, and yes, a 1m dish would improve things for you.
Bigger dish = more signal.

hotbird is slightly higher than astra,check a motorised system when moving from hotbird to astra,dish moves slightly down,1mtre dish will only improve signal if dish is alligned perfectly in first place

i would say higher for hb from astra also try hb as the prime sat it might improve things but both are high powered sats

Someone suggested a 1 metre dish would make signals better they are wrong if using a monoblock LNB they are made for an 80-85cm dish and will not work properly on a 1 metre dish

if using a 1m dish then an extesion arm for additional lnbs can be used as stated monoblock not ideal for 1m dishes

average : 10775H (46%)
strongest: 11727V (52%)

i have used monoblock in the past and hotbird was slightly higher on my set up and worked very well

in scotland somewhere around 1-3 west is the highest position in the sky. so on a motorised dish hotbird would be higher as there is only one lnb but as far as i know with the reflection being off center for the 2nd lnb (13e) it has to be lower.

hotbird is slightly weaker than astra1 in most of europe so i find that installing the dish with hotbird as the primary focus is best. from behind the dish the secondary focus astra lnb is to the right and slightly elevated which also ajusts the skew. regards mdt

A general rule is the weakest satellite in the centre of the dish.
The side LNB gets coverage from part of the dish.
