Hello everyone,

Have been seriously thinking of getting Spiderbox but only for **** and

premiere league footy, I would wait until late august to do this for obvious

reasons,my friend has a spiderbox and he tells me no PLF at the moment

on spider is it worth me waiting to see what develops later on?? tommo1:respect-040:

For footy its always better to wait till the season starts, then you know whats definately showing up each week, not all promisses are kept by broadcasters.

As for the spider it was brilliant for the last year up till a month or so back, give it several more weeks to rebuild and then check it out again to see if its going satisfy your programme requirments for next season.

I have both makes, but i prefer the Spiderbox receiver as it's capability's do far more than the Protek Receiver, but thats just my view ;)

Can you tell us why please? I bought the spiderbox 9000HD and was considering the Proteck but due to cost difference and the fact it looked like the spiderbox was going to include the gift indefinitely at the time of purchase I bought the spiderbox instead.

I have to admit with the service+ going down I have at times wondered if I made a mistake, and before anyone says it was a gift and free I say the MAIN reason I bought the spiderbox was because of service+ thankfully service+ is starting to come back (especially today with the news about 19east :)).

If service+ was not available I would not have bought the spiderbox and I suspect many other people feel the same, I could have bought cheaper stb's without the "gift" so to me there was a monetary cost to buying a receiver with service+ so it was not free, in all likelihood I would have bought the Protek therefore in my opinion service+ WAS part of the contract and calling it free is just marketing.

On the positive side having bought the Spiderbox I have to say the image quality is exceptionally good and there are some features I really like but I don't know if other stb's have the same features as I have nothing to compare it with (other than a humax 5400) hence my question.

the spider is more flexible if you needed it for cs but just for the gift they both do basically the same thing but some of the channels they open are different the protec also usially is auto update

There may be other costs for you.
If your dish is 36v then ypu will also need a VBoxII or simular to move the dish.
I had this years ago when i moved from my Echostar recievers to DreamM and Technomate.
They are easy when set up, but does take a little time first set, I do not think there are any recievers with built in positioners now, so you will have to go through the setup change at some time.

Free gift is easy if thats what you want to run, to add a line is also easy if you have a freind.
Me, I run a Spiderbox on my 1.2m dish and a DM800 hd-se on my 1.8m, That gives a lovely mix, but the DM takes some knowledge the Spider does nearly as much with no knowledge.

Ps
Dont forget HD gives you extra channels you cannot get if you dont have it.

out of curiosity for those users that have both the protek and spiderbox which gives less problems as regards picture freezing and channels not opening when they should do,

dont need anything for cs but havnt made my mind up which box to go for;]

Is it me or the footy channels being omitted from sevice+ fix. a bit like viacom channels used to be omitted or sky ones due to cocern from the related authority. Now seem to be frightened of premiership broadcasting channels eg sport ones nova sport.

Hello,

Got to agree with you CBo, I would only purchase the box (I know it sounds

a bit cheeky) if indeed we could watch english premiere league footy, my m8

has a spiderbox and he said towards the end of the season no premiere

league games were shown, so ultimately I will see what develops regarding

EPL games next season....tommo1:iagree::bravo-009:

@Satcat,

For some reason I cannot pick up 10% east, with my Darkbox, only can pick

up thor,astra1/2,hotbird, eut***** 16%, so 10% east would be a non goer for

me anyway, have tried adjusting my dish but no joy, even with a 0.1 lnb....

if you got a motorised dish your motoring past 10e mate you should be able to get it with say an 80cm dish

the fact of the matter is that pltv was working fine on 10e at the end of the last season , on any spiderbox , so its not fair to say there was no footy on the spiderbox as its clearly not true

maybe a member cannot get 10e to appear , but that is nothing to do with owning or not owning a spiderbox , its a reception issue , not a box issue , and I had no problems with 10e on a triax TD110 dish so the "mate" who owns the spiderbox was wrong , end of story

I've read on this forum before of people having problems picking up 10E.
Personally I get a better signal/quality on 10E than I do on 16E (Digialb channels). It must be a location issue.
I'm in ***bria, North England with a 1m dish.

39e had EPL all season, 6 to 8 games live most weeks, the softcams were always quick to appear for the spider.

The spider did alright for the season just finished, PLTV was a welcome bonus as well.

As one of the Veterans on here used to say "here today gone tomorrow". Always makes me smile when people offer their complaints about a card, box, cam that has stopped working. In the end it's a hobby and if you want to get constant viewing buy a subscription. Too many times have I read about people buying kit and when support either stops or the providers patch their services they moan and complain. No box, cam, card is/or should be advertised as being able to illegally open channels. You're not buying what it can do when hacked. You are buying what the box, card, cam can do legitimately.

Looking at the spiderbox the option would be to go for the 9000HD as is has a CAM slot option. Should the gift go pear shaped you can still add cams to suit. It's also worth pointing out that you could still get PLF on free to air channels if you we're willing to look. PLHD on 10e was open from February time 6 games on a weekend plus highlights and replays throughout the week all in HD.RTS1 on 7e granted in French had a game of the day again FTA. Not to mention the countless feeds viewable check satelliweb not all prem some champ and league 1 and 2, rugby, boxing, wrestling and concerts.

Ok rant over. I bought a protek when the spider had just come on and the rumor mill had said the gift only lasted a year. I have been perfectly happy with the protek. Hd picture is fantastic support has been amazing this year. The team that works on it are on the ball constantly. I am however intrigued by the spider which offers more(9000HD) should things stop. CAM slot internal emu and I think you can add your own servers should you wish to share with a friend or payserver.

All said you are right wait until the season starts, one box, card, cam finishes and another begins. I have a pile of window scapers (fun, titanium, opus, knot). Some lasted an age others months. Hedge your bets roll the dice.

If you want PLTV might as well buy a £20 dragon/trex cam and open that biss channel. Save a lot of money. Can't really recommend to buy a spiderbox based on opening that channel. Its true here today gone tomorrow but protek does sound more promising currently if you investigate further. Spiderbox picture skips sometime on info display and the video playback function lacks a playlist feature and doesn't play all divx size types constistly. The network feature isn't fully used. Good for external cs if you can do that.

@CBo I wasn't suggesting they buy a spiderbox based on opening PLTV as manic01 and I have said it's been FTA for a while . Most HD boxes can cope with (humax2000 doesn't) it.
