View Full Version : Using Vu+ Duo For Multi Satellite - Other Box Moving Dish

Hi,
Is anybody using this receiver for multi satellite use but using another box to move the dish?
An example would be to use an old Echostar AD3600 to move the dish using a 36v motor such as a Jaeger 1224 but then using the Vu+ Duo for multi satellite viewing and other functionality.

Is that a statement or question.
First part seems like a question, second part sounds like you have tried or want to not sure?

First part is a question, second part is a theoretical example to illustrate the question.
No, I have not tried it and I want to be sure it works before I buy a Vu+ Duo box. I use another positioner box to move my dish and not Diseqc.

you can do it that way.....use a v box myself

Yep get rid of the echostar and just use the VU+Duo with a V box.
I use to use a moteck when I had a 36v motor.

It is not possible to use Diseqc and a vbox to control inclined orbit tracking with auto focus and autojog to keep a lock that is why I use an external box.
I referred to an Echostar as an example that most people would be familiar with rather than an actual case. Sorry for any confusion in that aspect.
Out of interest, does Diseqc with a vbox provide autofocus with the autopeak function when moving to a new satellite, ie, moves to the pulse count position then scans a bit both sides of the known position then selects the maximum signal. Or, does it just move to a known pulse count without autopeak each time?

For me it worked I use to have a echostar myself a long time ago.
I did not know that you are also tracking incline sats.
When you say auto focus do you mean slight nudges ?
Its hard for me to remember its been that long, I know it never let me down when I went all the way from 42e to 30w.
Going to back your first question, if you want to use the echostar to move your dish and the VU+duo to view pictures then of course that would be fine.
How you would setup this up in the VU+duo would be interesting though because the VU+duo would only clear what ever your dish is pointing at.
What you could do is use a 4-1 switch for normal sats, ie 28.2e,19.0e,13.0e and 0.8w on a small static dish then use the second tuner connected straight to your other dish which I guess is big if you are using 36v.

I personally use the terms Auto Focus and Auto Jog as below, however, others may interpret them differently:
Auto Focus is where the positioner moves the dish to the pulse count stored in the motor, then, once at that position it moves the dish a few pulses East then a few pulses West recording the signal strength all this time. Finally, it moves the dish to the maximum signal strength position it detected during this process. Normally, this would be used for azimuth positioning.
Auto Jog is where the positioner periodically and automatically monitors the signal strength and if the signal falls below a certain threshold the positioner moves the dish in both AZ & EL planes to restore the maximum signal strength. This would be used to keep a lock on inclined orbit satellites automatically without the need for the user to keep manually adjusting the position of the dish. This is an automated version of the "slight nudges" that you mentioned.
I use a Precision 1.5m prime focus dish.
It does seem that the Vu+ Duo is suitable for what I hope to achieve, I think I need to buy one and see how I get on. Thank you for your input on the options and functionality available from the Vu+ Duo.
