View Full Version : BBC HD reception problem

I read that as of today 06/06, BBC One HD and BBC HD would change from DVB-S to DVB-S2. As of this morning, I have no signal for either of these channels on any of my 3 receivers connected to 80cm or 120 cm dishes.

I'm in Switzerland, and I wonder if this change has also meant a lowering of signal strength which would explain this problem. Other UK signals, BBC SD, ITV SD and HD continue to come in load and clear.

Anyone else seeing similar problems?

Hi Guys - many thanks for this info. That has fixed the "problem" in the Humax and the Spiderbox, but the SkyHD box, which should have dealt with this automatically I thought, still doesn't get these 2 channels despite a reboot. In "add channels" you can only specify an SR of 22000 or 27500 and FEC does not offer 8/9 - I wonder if I need to download new software into the Sky box?

Thanks again!

As far as I could see my Sky box *did* have the latest s/w, but I forced an update anyway.......and the problem remains! BBC HD and BBC One HD show "No satellite signal is being received". I connected the Humax to the same LNB and it works fine, so it seems that this BBC change from DVB-S to DVB-S2 is not being recognised by my Sky receiver ....... I guess a new box is required, unless anyone has any bright ideas?

Does your receiver support S2? Can you get C4 HD which uses DVB-S2? From what I read some older equipment doesn't support it. Perhaps you could say which Sky HD box you have. You can't use other symbol rates in add other channels but some use 29500 (and now 23000) and these work via the epg unless anyone knows different. Also do you have a Sky card and if so for which area is it for?

The Sky HD receiver is quite an old Thomson (4-5 years?), which still has component out (and I'm reluctant to lose this connection, as I feed an HD sender with it). I *can* receive Ch4 HD no problem, so I guess the receiver does support S2. Curiously though, if I try and find CH4HD via "add channels", it is not found...... Finally, I do have a Sky card from South East, though I don't see the relevance of this, since BBC HD is not encrypted.

I know next to nothing about sky boxes so this may be complete bollocks but recently a friend complained that he couldn't get channel 4 on his freesat box.
Scanning with the correct transponder information didnt add it to his list. Eventually I realised that it was in a different list called "other channels" presumably this is typical Sky sour grapes that they dont encrypt it any longer so have moved it to the naughty list.

Finally, I do have a Sky card from South East, though I don't see the relevance of this, since BBC HD is not encrypted.

I think I've read somewhere that if it is an Irish card people are saying BBC HD doesn't appear on the epg so can't be added manually. May be worth having a google with your HD box model. There a few threads elsewhere about the change on the net but I don't have a Sky HD box, only a tm 6800HD that I had to rescan.

Just scanned the transponder shown in this thread (DM8000) and comes up with 5 channels including ITV 1 HD, however all of them are still only 1440X1080 so still not "proper" HD

Does seem from having a trawl around that some thomson boxes are having issues amongst some others as well. Father had to take the mains off his Goodmans HD freesat box to get it to work.

I can confirm that my Thomson SKY HD box will not react to these channels. The fault report says " no satellite signal". My later Amstrad box is OK.
Sky do not know of other complaints.
Additionally my Panasonic PZ81B freesat box is not recognising either channel. Over to the BBC methinks.

Hi Les - interesting that you appear to be experiencing the same problem as I am with an old Thomson. Mine was one of a bunch of 8 that we bought at the time. I contacted one of my friends and her box appears to have updated fine. I'll send out a mail to the other 6 to see if they are having similar BBC HD problems.

I've got a freesat hd box with my screen just scanned in the new freqs it finds them ok but I'm also getting the "No Signal" notification

Are they actually working at this time ?

They *are* transmitting, since I get both channels fine on the Humax and the Spider. However there does seem to be a genuine problem, since after a bit of googling, I have discovered that several people are experiencing the same problem, mainly with old Sky Thomson boxes, it would seem.

Paul - what "update" did you do? This change was supposed to be transparent.

Further to earlier replies re updating software in Thompson boxes. It's obvious that only some boxes are affected. I got an over air update sent to my box by Sky, and also did a manual update with no improvement.
The details of my box are: Model No. 902020, Version 4E 3007,
Op Sys. 1.32B12, EPG Software Sky+ 8.3.2. Perhaps those with problems could check theirs.
I still have no luck with my Panasonic TH-46PZ81B receiver. In both equipments CH5 HD is OK, so it seems as though the BBC HD update is not the same as other services

Interesting....Les, my box details are exactly the same as yours - and I still have the BBC HD problem. However, my friend's box also has the same details.........and her box works! The only difference between my box and her's is that I upgraded to a 1Tb disk. But I hardly thinks that's relevant.

I have the same details also and I have no problems.

I also have a 1TB disk installed myself.

Me again......just found the solution on another forum!

You need to first remove any channels you have saved in "other channels". This may already fix the problem, but if not then do services,0,0,1, select and choose "new install".

I just did that and BBC HD and BBC One HD are now working correctly!

Les_Laurentides

Problem solved BBC HD all OK. You must delete all added channels then do a new install with card in.
Press "Services" . Press "0" Press "4". Then press "0" then "1" Press "Select. This launches installer menu. Press 6 to launch "new installation"

I have also solved my problem with my Panasonic PZ81B. The answer came from "*******". On some Freesat TVs, Auto retune does not get the updated BBC HD channels. You have to set the TV to "Shipping Condition", then switch off then switch on. After retune the two BBC HDS channels appear.
You@ll then have to restore your personalised settings for inputs etc.

Yes mate, they don't open as I said above - but on MY TM is says they are free to air = UN scrambled, that's my point and can anyone please explain why they don't open - especially when BBC is FTA in UK anyway?
(As a matter of interest, if they really ARE scrambled why doesn't it state in which encryption method, but states 'FTA'?):respect-069:

as your topic is completely unrelated to this one then you should have opened your own topic in the tm section

this topic is regarding the recent changes to the bbc channels on 28e and relates to sly boxes only

thanks

( ie:- do not hi jack other members threads with your own unrelated topics )

Also on my Vantage 7100hd no luck with bbc hd...no channels found.

Working here with :
10847 V DVB-S2, QPSK 23000 8/9

85% Signal

Try with a Channel List or settings for your receiver.
