I think you need a 60cm dish minimum

A m8 in Bordeaux gets all weather coverage of 28E using an 80 cm, so 60cm should be OK in all but a thunderstorm.
Things may change next year when Astra 2N is placed at 28E as it will have a tighter spot beam than Astra 2D, bad news for the ex-pats in Spain.

Well it could be bad news for Spain but it depends which channels will switch to it. There are many of the FreeView channels that would like to drop the expensive encryption costs they currently incur by using a wide beam 28E slot. I'm told that 2N wil be launched in August with a months testing before the dust clears.
Luckily for me the north spot beams are still fairly strong in the Rheinland.
2d is near the end of its life ayway.
Thanks for your input have a 64cm triax on a tripod so should pull in channels at La Rochelle off Astra 2.
