hi

now that it seems the pctailor site is dead , does anyone have links to info and files for the navigo ( that used turbodog ) which I altered to use tom tom files a year or two back ?

I am looking for any new files , maps , speedcam files or anything else to update it from the previous files that used to exist on the pctailor site

mine is the navigo 1 I think , but any info that may be relevant is most welcome

thank you in advance

echelon - Once you have got tomtom onto the navigo/f&h units, you can update using the map, postcode and speedcam files very kindly posted by Russell1 in the TomTom Go (https://www.satpimps.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=135) section of Satpimps, without any problem.

Make sure you use the maps without IG Routes or ALG, such as the latest map v870.3417 here...

https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showpost.php?p=800281&postcount=15

Use the activation tools also posted by Russell1, you will need the device ID from your existing tomtom navigator to activate the new map. Tap on the status bar at the bottom, then on the box marked 'version 7.xxx'. On the next page there will be a list of info, at the bottom is the device ID in the form of 10 alphanumeric digits with a space in the middle - ignore the space.

You can also find the device ID in 'navigator.bif' in the root of the SD card.

Hope this helps!:respect-048:

I was editing while you was reading.

Come to think about it, I'm not sure 7.910 is absolutely essential... v7.xxx onwards is probably okay, but I guess you might as well have the latest one that will work.

What version is on your navigo?

I should have a version of 7.910 doctored to go onto the navigo somewhere - I can upload to megaupload or something if you want it.

ok , thank you

I have done that and found its actually running v7.910 and found that 10 character alpha-numeric code too

so I guess I now need to somehow sort this sd card to run the latest 870 maps instead of 830 maps

I have copied the card and created a new one for messing with ;) LOL

Good idea!

Copy the mobilenavigator folder from the old card onto the new card and add the map folder I linked to above. You can add the latest speed cams later, when it's working. ;)

The hardest thing to get your head round is the map activation. Use the BBS tools that Russell1 posted, or if you like you can pm your device ID and I'll email you a .m eta.dct file to add to the map folder and activate the map.

Any probs, give us a shout. :)

ok , think its all done now :D

the problem I had with the bbs tools was it was complaining about the m eta txt file , so after studying the tutorial a few times I decided to edit the one in the bbs window , removing everything in there and copying and pasting the lines from the 870 maps m eta txt file into it , at that point when I pressed activate , it did so instead of giving me an error message from the original m eta txt file , and then I had the dct installed

booted the navigo and it says tt is 7.910 and is using 870.3417 maps with my unit serial number

so I added the speedcams and pois and seems ok

thanks again for all the help m8

dont seem to see many of these about now , so wondering if they can still be bought or any other equivalents that allow the same tricks to be used on them ?

want to buy another one if possible , or a similar unit that I can do the same tricks with like tt 7.910 and latest tt 870 maps etc ( as above )

also seems as if all the old sites have all disappeared so are there any sites still covering this unit ? ( there was pctailor , navsoon and a few others but cant seem to find an active site any more , tried mobilepassion but got nowhere )

addendum

ps:- I used the lates bbs tools posted by satpaul and made them a sticky as well , but left the old one up as it contains all the instructions etc

hi m8 , know how you feel , but once I was pointed in the right direction and used the newest bbs tools posted by satpaul and the 870 map posted by russ , it all was surprisingly easy but remembering what we did years ago is harder( currently on tt 7.910 and maps 870 )

I have now updated igo 8 as well to v8.3.4.142975 dated may 2010 but had to leave mio on v3 from about sept 2007 , which I believe is an older version of igo anyway

it can all be fitted on a 1 gig sdcard but ideally use a 2 gig sdcard so you can add games and mp3 etc too

I tried a few sites like the following :-

I've not seen anything similar for a while... the Navigo units were later sold as Fohen & Hirsch, and last off they were selling an 'ebuyer value' satnav unit which also looked like a navigo. I replaced my old one with a F&H widescreen model when they were on offer... all the files were on the simplesatnav site, the replacement for the the old pctailor site. Sadly, that too is now gone.

seems strange that those old sites are gone with seemingly nothing to replace or supercede them

at least I have updated the tomtom and igo ones to more modern versions , in the case of the tomtom it was only new maps , pois and speedcams etc , following your tips and help

found this info too

TomTom v7 on Navigo II FOEHN & HIRSCH

(SD in PC)
1. Unrar to SD
(SD in satnav)
2. From main menu select system>3rd page>map path and set mappath to sdmmc\mobilenavagator\mobilenavag ator.exe
3. From main menu select navagation to run TT, this will launch TT but crash/stop due to map error.(only need this step to generate bif file)
(SD in PC)
4. Run fast activate, select update **** then select maps, give it a min to finish.
(SD in satnav)
5.From main menu select navigation to run TT, this will launch TT, if worked it should run OK.

This is for F&H, the menu will prob slight diff on navigo. Not sure if you have option to set map path, if not look at this, you may have to use active sync to hack it

Many thanks for the info . My latest map is the v870.3406 and need to update my 2 satnavs .My Navigo v2 only has TT on it , but the V1 has Miomap ,Igo & TT on the same SD card and work from shortcuts on the desktop [ I hacked the registry when I first got it ],so it boots straight into WIN CE but all the maps on this model are now sadly out of date . I will update TT on v2 as soon as I get a minute.

just installed a 4th one , primo 9.2.1 .179499 feb 15 2011 as well

so now got tt7.910 with maps 870 , primo 9.2.1 , igo8.3.4 and mio 3.3 running :D

a1.rar its called _http://uploaded.to/file/icxnac1z/

please note I have changed the sys.ini file to say SDMMC instead of storage

also changed the baud rate to 57600 and port to port number 7 on my navigo

if adding icons to the navigo make sure they are 48 x 48 .ico icons or 57x57 .ico icons in the icon folder

not been able to find a garmin one yet !

@echelon ,many thanks . just got igo and getting a1.rar now .
Have you included any help files ? . I'm now a bit rusty at installing software on these Navigos and as much help as I can get ;-)
Are the maps for igo easy to get hold of ?

I will see if I can post some other files later

no I havent included anything that wasnt already there , but the links I gave earlier have them

update

file is below and has most of what you need included

use the same CONTENT/POI on both igo8 and primo921

_________________________________ _________________

also download and use the same map on both igo8 and primo921 by copying it into the content/map folder

its named United Kingdom_83_NQ_2011.Q1_110405.fbl and is about 78 meg in size , from the pack download on one of those sites mentioned earlier ( too big to upload here )

I was wondering if the same files worked on that foehn and hirsch model ?

The F&H models were virtually the same, and the same method was be used to put the software on. Additionally, the simplesatnav site had lots more stuff relevant to the F&H models, including widescreen versions of software, and new menus with games, etc.

seems strange that those old sites are gone with seemingly nothing to replace or supercede them

IIRC the sites were shut down due to pressure of legal action from copyright holders.

some of the details I posted include different res files , but I use 320 x 240 on my navigo

seems to me we could do with finding some of that stuff , including the new menus etc

cant all be copyrighted ;)

just got a F&H 3.5 satnav and used the 1.0.43 bbs tools to activate the tt map 870 ok

when I launch navigation it goes straight into tt 7.910 , so I dont get the intermediate BBmenu menu system like I do on the v2 navigo 3.5 inch model

any idea how to get it to launch into the menus and not straight into tt 7.910 ?

or have you any of the docs and menus for the f&h ? or any menu and games links ?

thanks

I think the F&H should boot to menu screen, mine does. The WinCE registry in flash has probably been modified to boot directly to TT. Never bothered tinkering with the registry, but I have the registry editor somewhere if you need it... can't remember whereabouts in the registry you change the filename to boot to though, sorry.

I found this whilst googling, it's navigo related but could be relevant...

I reckon I've still got the menu/games stuff I found on simplesatnav, but I checked and it's definitely specific to the 4.3" widescreen model, iirc the games were ripped from another 4.3" ws device.

Not seen this stuff hosted anywhere else since simplesatnav went belly up.

thanks , anything may be helpful

I do get the usual boot where navigation is top left , mp3 player , photo player etc ( the usual 6 icons ) , but when I press top left it goes straight into mobile navigator , so with the original software it boots into the new version of turbodog v6.1 ( dont know what its called ) , and if tt7.910 is in mobilenavigator it boots straight into tt , ignoring the boot menu , and so I dont get wince or anything else coming up , not games , not apps , nothing

so yes I may need an editor

I have looked at the wiki site on navigo and learned a lot , and from those other sites too , but cant find any new menus or anything that relates to this f+h , and this one is almost identical to the 3.5 inch navigo

also noted it mentions here _http://navigo.wikispaces.com/Navigo+WinCE+Hack that shell.ini should take precedence over booting direct to mobile navigator , so it is either ignoring that file or something else needs doing, and I dont seem to have said file either , also cannot find those alternative skins mentioned for this ini file either , and its running gpsrunfile.txt on my old navigo which points to bbmenu.exe but changing that file (or copying it) and renaming to shell.ini doesnt work either

thank you

sparky_dog
16-07-2011, 10:24 PM
I don't think it's as straightforward as just doctoring the ini file, I'm sure the registry has to be altered somewhere too.

Also, I think you are right that the early F&H and late navigo units were virtually the same.

This is the registry editor I have...

echelon
16-07-2011, 11:56 PM
backed up both satnavs with that editor , thanks

then checked and found the older one had pvshell and the newer one said explorer

as per this quote

HKey_Local_Machine\init\Launch50 - Change from "PvShell.exe" to "explorer.exe"

so I changed the f+h to PvShell.exe from explorer.exe , made no difference !! LOL

the other folders all pointed to the system , not the sdcard

so its this gpsrunfile.txt file that works on the old and not the new

cant even find a way to get explorer or wince to work on the f+h

echelon

found that destinator 9 also works on this navigo , using baud rate 57600 on com port 7 ( change the gpstmc.ini file in the userdata folder ),
I changed it to mobilenavigator and put it in the mobilenavigator folder so it booted direct on the f+h , same as the newer turbodog v6 and tt 7.910 do

destinator v9

2010 map
_http://depositfiles.com/en/files/sumfux0e5

The maps folder goes in the Destinator directory. Password for maps rar file is lapatoshka

Remember if using with Navigo, ensure contents of destinator9 are in mobilenavigator (not as a sub directory!!!) and rename the executable navigation.exe to mobilenavigator.exe

been working on the menus etc , so here is a zip file with the icons , menu ini files I am using , some empty folders to show where the stuff goes , apps etc

just add your own files to the empty folders and use the same names or amend the ini files in notepad

I have tt 7.910 running with 870.3417 maps , and also primo-igo 921 , igo8 , destinator9.1 and miomap 3.3 too ( 5 programs ) and choosing baud rate 57600 on com7 , not got garmin or route66 or amigo or navigon or anything else running yet , dont know if anyone else has

the f+h still only runs mobilenavigator , whatever you use for it ( turbodog6 or 5 , or tt7.910 , or destinator etc )

cant get the menus to run or get into wince yet on the f+h , ok on navigo v2 , should be ok on a v1 too , not tested a 4.3 navigo as havent got one

if anyone has anything useful to add , like bmp files , ico files , games etc , please feel free to post them below

managed to get the v3 3.5 inch f&h working by using the v3 menu and modding the flash according to its instructions etc
had to change the earlier launch50 option back to explorer too , from pvshell , seeing as it wasnt that one that needed doing ;)

I have now updated the menus for the v2 and v3 and posted the updates in post 1 of the sticky thread up top

it contains updated 57x57 icons , apps , games and more 320x240 bmp backgrounds etc

just fill in the empty folders using other files or downloads , but make a full backup of your sdcard and flash first ( use CEregedit for the flash )

also note that on some f&h 3.5 inch models the registry launch50 file has an underscore after explorer , so explorer_.exe , remove the underscore and save

Thanks for posting this.
Thought support for the great little Navigo had completely gone even after posting on various other forums asking what happened to PC tailor. Was a great informative site.

Still rely on my Navigo but it is in need of a update and like many on this post - i forgot how! I use to know how to edit all the bits and pieces with ease so hoping it will come back to me soon!
I have United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ir eland_v850.2820 so need to find a way to update this somehow.

It seems google is linking to the topic now so hopefully the Navigo will remain alive a little longer here!
