ok, i spent a little time on this tonight.
i was getting very glitchy performance, and going on what others have said, i thought it might be my internet at fault , so...
i have changed my MTU on my router from 1500 to 900 (this decreases packet size, and lets more in quicker)
i have also changed my routers virgins DNS to googles, which is 8.8.8.8 primary, and 8.8.4.4 secondary which gets distributed by dhcp to all my equipment.
rebooted everything.
problem fixed, and now watching a HD movie on a well known provider (ND$) and it is fine.
