tomtom new vs refurb

hi chaps

The battery of PDA (with tomtom) no longer charges...so l looking to buy a new or refurb tomtom. I'm interested in paying upto 110, on a model that has a good screen size, ALG, IQ Routes, cameras, but nothing fancy like bluetooth or handsfree.

I would like to patch the tomtom with latest maps etc, when they come available, so it must be patchable.

I have been looking at the XL and XXL - are these easy to patch (with the right guidance and correct software)? Should l buy new or refurb units?

Another any recommendations than these two units which are easily patchable...?

The very latest Tomtom units have to be updated 'Live', so avoid them if you want to use copied maps.
All other units are easy enough to patch :)

I bought a new Go730 last year & not had any problems with it. I'd guess a refurb should be ok as long as you get a reasonable guarantee with it incase of any problems.

I'm thinking buying the tomtom go 710 (refurbed unit) with one year guarantee
It doesnt come with ALG or IQ Routes....

Can l patch this to make these features available, I just needed confirmation before purchasing & what size SD card should be sufficient

I would go for something newer like the 930 you dont need to put patch software on it for Iq routes as it supports them anyway with the 710 you will also have to buy a sd card for Europe as the one in it is too small the 930 has 4gb built in

Yes satpaul I agree - would go for a *20 or *30 unit, choice really depends on what size maps you will want to use on it & memory space available.

The 730 or 930 are the best if you don't want Live services.

Thanks for the advance chaps, l only attend to use the satnav in the UK, so UK & Ireland Maps are sufficient. I just wanna spend around £100, so could easier buy a Sd card as well for the 710. The reason for buying an older unit was so that it would be easy to patch with the latest maps.

The GO 550 Live(UK) model can be patched with latest maps, and has a card slot so you can expand to other maps.

The only models that can't be patched are the latest GO 1000/1005 and Start models

Chaps, a big thanks to everyone....l was going to pay upto 100, so from the flybay link 'satpaul' provided l purchased this satnav - thats the tomtom go 930. Thanks for helping me make the right choice, thanks chaps!

I still have my old 930 and fitted a new battery, as the old one no longer held any charge.

Also I have a GO 1000 new model, but will never sell the 930.
