Can anyone here kindly recommend a durable HD receiver box? I would like a receiver that is updated regularly and can be in service for a long time. Don't mind if it is Linux-based and having possibility to connect to the Internet. PVR function too is a plus.
Thanks :)

Hi I purchased an Icecrypt stc 6000. The picture quality is amazing in both HD and SD, mine has the internal 500 g hard drive for recording. I have the unofficial freeview and freesat HD tuners fitted. The freesat tuner uses the 7 day open epg which is great for timer recordings. The various plugins and add on make this a very versatile stb. Its wi fi connection to the internet works a treat and you get extras like web browsing and free Tv+ (You Tube etc). There are 2 ci slots for pay tv and 2 card slots in an internal conax cam which can be programed to work with other encryption technologies.
There are regular updates, the box can lock up occasionally but not enough to be troublesome. there is some support on this forum but its not has extensive as some stbs, I guess because its so new.
Hope this helps.
Geoff

Hi Passete,
So whats is so good about Dreambox? is it the box itself and the way it performs or ther support network? is it as flexible as the Icerypt. WhatSat rated the Icecrypt stc 6000 above the Dreambox in a recent review.
Love to know.
Geoff
I'm pretty happy with a VUODuo.
One thing no point putting in a small HD this days. 2TB is only a touch more then anything smaller.

All the Boxes Runing Under E2, are "inspired" or copied from Dreambox !
No other receiver as much support, But like all things in life, if you want the best, you need to pay for it !

Zeke,
500 g internal was my choice you can fit what you want. Apart from the internal HD there are 3 usb connections which you can use for further HD or other stuff, like downloading updates or a wi fi dongle. The box is very versatile you can have a mix of tuners (max 2), sat S2, terestial T2 and cable, the choice is yours

E2 can loaded on to this box if thats what you want, so as I see it why pay the earth when you can get better cheeper

You are absolutely wright mate !
But, why on earth, should you get the credits made by others ?
If you don't get my point, i will explain :
If Dmm wasn't runing E2, which other OS would your receiver work ?
It's allways easy to USE the work made by others and adapt to your needs/Business !
Hope that you get my point, and no hard feelings ...
Another point :
if we don't pay for those working hard, to give us better OS, who will do ?
it's allways easy to copy someothers work, then to develop yourself

The receiver has its own system and doesn't need E2 it just has the flexibility to use it if that is what the owner wants to do.
As I said before its very versatile and allows the purchaser choice. Dm are big boys and they operate in the open source software market so its up to them to protect their product.
After all wasn't it an Englishman who invented the www and gave it to the world to the benefit of us all including and in particular Dm.

Ya but my point was today a 2TB isn't much more expensive then something smaller. So what ever box a person picks getting a bigger drive won't hurt. Unless the software doesn't support bigger drives.

Isn't enigma 2 open source ?
DMM didn't seem to have a problem running E1 which came from dbox not DMM AFAIK
