Newbie.... SORRY!

Morning all,

I have wasted around 8 hours of my life yesterday trying to get some kind of service on my Icecrypt s3500 using a 45cm dish pointed at the very strong UK service satellite. I have updated the firmware, installed loads of plugins and even got Nline information the newcamd file to show up in the mgc_cfg file. It is however highly frustrating as read for others too not being able to simply get the the final stage of something actually working. The people in the know are too sh*t scared to say anything helpful which means that the people who have working service are fine and those trying their best are left in the dark. I have done this before with a Spiderbox and ended up taking it back. I don't have any friends who have successfully achieved this either so I am screwed.

That is of course unless someone on here is willing to help. I can prove who I am, go through some kind of Cyber initiation if you wish and sign to secrecy if need be.

For the record I am an installer of satellite systems, and its getting embarrassing that some customers know more than me so I am trying my best to do this.... PLEASE HELP!

are you getting fta freesat channels from said satellite ok ?

if so I assume your problem is getting n or c lines working on your box ?

most ppl would use the equivalent of cccam or newcamd to do this , like xcam on my s4000

I have never used mgcamd for this so cannot help you there , but I have used xcam for c and n lines and there are details in the forums at the top of this section on adding those lines successfully

what emus are available on your box exactly ?

you dont actually tell us what you are trying to achieve....as Ech says can you FTA working? and its just a cshare issue you have??

FTA all good... No problems with the signal.

The plugin pack you have pointed out are the ones I have already installed. I fiddled with Xcam first before trying mgcamd. The firmware update I did means that the s3500 can use whatever plugins the s4000 uses. I have only just found the cardconfig file for xcam so I'll be giving it a go now, but here is the million dollar question........

when you haven't ever got it to work before you don't know if the information you are trying is bad or not. Hopefully you see my frustration. Its all well and good having a million forums where people tell you how to load lines into code sometimes all the tuition in the world gets you no where.

Further to the above message I have now managed to successfully edit the cardclient.conf file, adding server information which now appears in the Xcamconfigure utility. However when I start the Xcamclient it says Cannot start any client, Please check cardclient.conf file or network connection. I know the network connection is fine as I am able to update the files in the box. I have also made sure the port associated with the server line is open and forwarding to the IP address of the box, did I need to do that? No one else seems to have mentioned that in explicit details anywhere but I thought it can only be a good thing.

Does this happen when you just have dud info?

see if u have ANOTHER .conf in a folder called PROTECT and edit that one!

That is the one I have been working on all along, haven't found one elsewhere. Just tried setting CAID and MASK to 0000/0000 in the newcamd line as I thought that the ones I have put in may have been stopping it from working but no joy.

I am using Xcam 2.1.2, could this be the problem?

I really am starting to think that its just my data.

You need to have a known working N or C-line.
It sounds like your trying free servers details. These very rarely work and if they do they do not last for long.
To check if your set-up is working try nasscam(I have posted the latest version for you in the plugin section) if this works then your set up is OK and all you need to do is find a working server to go with it.
