Promoter Frank Warren and Boxing Channel Media have launched a new channel for fight sports on the Sky platform, with the first event to be broadcast on Sept 30.

'BoxNation' represents a direct challenge to Sky Sports coverage of boxing. The line up on the channel will feature two live championship promotions from the UK and around the world each week, amateur boxing, magazine shows and archive footage of classic fights, including greats Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and Sugar Ray Leonard.

The channel will initially be free-to-air, but will become a subscription channel before the end of the year and will be available at £10 per month.

The first live promotion will see Liam Walsh against Paul Appleby from the spiritual home of boxing in London's east end at York Hall for the Commonwealth super-featherweight championship, on September 30.

Warren, Britain's most successful promoter and now into his fourth decade in the sport, said, "This is what all boxing fans have been waiting for - a dedicated channel, 100 per cent committed to showing the best fights from around the world.

"It’s a big challenge in my career, but I’m really excited by BoxNation and it takes me back to my early years when I was at ITV doing a show a week."

It may well be worth a tenner a month if he is going to get some top class fights. Sly charge that much and more for 1 night of boxing.
