I think that in your location you would need a dish somewhere around 1.8 or 2 metre mark to receive channels from 7 west

Aldo is correct.
I have a freind in Norwich with a 1.2m dish and he can only get this sat in best conditions, ie about 50% of the time and a lots less in winter than summer.
As you move North or west is gets harder and the dish needs to grow in size.
forgot say. no probs my area near ipswich/felixstowe with 1.8m channel master, most of time on my 1.2m channel master

I don't which channels that you were looking for on 7 west, but I have just had a look on the other forum for info ref 7 west, and here is a question and answer ref that location:
Question:
can anyone still get city7 on nilesat i have lost it for sev eral months. Brian
Answer:
Been on Nilesat 201 for several months now no footprint in the UK for 120cm satellite dishes let us hope that Atlantic Bird 7 when it moves to 7 west it has a better footprint for Northern Europe.
and william-1 is in Es***
As I have just checked there must be 4 Sats occupying the 7 west slot:
Nilesat 101/102/201 - Atlantic Bird 4A @ 7° West

agree with aldo and william1 , until the new bird goes live on station we wont know if we will get the channels that are no longer available to us in the uk with our more usual sized dishes
seems pointless to me that we in the uk expect to get channels aimed at egypt and the middle east , but with the new atlantic bird 7 you just never know

I have a 1.2 Channel Master, (London), and have picked up loads of channels, (but very definitely not all!), on both 7w and 26e at all times of the day, (except with thick cloud), for many years. (Dubai Racing! However I cannot get the channel on either sat at any time these days.) Regarding 7w specifically, MBC1, (and quite a few others), boom in so I suggest that Kennyboy looks for that one, as indeed previously mentioned. My guess is that he will pull in a breaking up picture on rare occasions with his 1.0....so maybe give up now or bung up a 1.8! Bring on the 7 Bird!

Similar to Kennyboy here in Oxfordshire.
I have a 1 metre dish and could pick up near to 40 channels earlier in the year (March April)
But come the middle of August I had lost all signal accross the entire sat.
I was going to check the connection to the LNB tmrw, but you guys have saved me a job.
Thanks

my advice is wait and see what bird 7 brings , as anyone messing about now is likely to have to change anyway when bird 7 comes online

I've lost pretty much all channels from 7w, as little as 12 months ago i could get all the vertical frequencies, now i just get sporadic reception on 11938V & 11823V, and thats about it. I know it's a combination of some frequencies moving to Nilesat 201 and some of the others changing FEC from 3/4 to 5/6. Wouldn't hold much hope for Atlantic bird 7 either, i've heard it's footprint will be very similar to the current Nile 201 & Atlantic bird 4A, so that'll be virtually no reception in the UK!
Here's the footprints for AB7, i know they're not always accurate, but it doesn't look good!
