Hi guys!
I am thinking to buy a Spiderbox 9000 because I heard so many good things about.
I understood all the procedures and think will be fine to work with it, but however I have some questions that I still don't have answers after reading all the useful Threads. Probably some Spider owners could help me.
1) I live in the countryside and have max 1 or 1.5MB internet speed, is it enought to work with Spider and have access to the gift?
2) When I will buy it, do I have 1 full year of gift garantee? (of course i am not asking a 100% sure garantee, just to know that I will have some months) :P
3) I saw that M*E*O and Z*O*N (30*W) packages are available but only some channels not all, is it right? (I saw in the channel list here in the section)
4) Does Spider work fine with Diablo2 cam? Because one of my receivers become crazy when I put my cam inside...
Thanks to all who will answer my doubts!
Cheers! :respect-037:

1) any broadband is fine , even the old 0.5 meg broadband
2) there is no expiry on the gift , but no you wont get any guarantees with it , it could last a week , a year , or 10 years !!
3) the channels vary from day to day and week to week , so again no guarantees , 30w is up and down at the moment so lists are soon out of date
4) you wont need a diablo cam , but I would say it may conflict with the patch that you place in the spiderbox , only by testing would you know

Another thing, I have a wireless internet here at home, I saw somewhere that I can buy a Vonets VAP11G USB WiFi Bridge to put in the Spiderbox and no need to make holes in my house and install cables.
Is there a guide somewhere here in the forum to install the Vonets VAP11G USB WiFi Bridge? By the way, my internet wireless network is protected with a key, how can Spider connect to it?
Thanks!
I hope that this info will be of some help to you:
How to make your Spiderbox wireless (WiFi)
This I find is the easy way to connect your Spiderbox to your WiFi router.:
It is done with a “WiFi Bridge” I use one from “OpenMedia”
The WiFi Bridge will come with software on a disk, after installing the software to your PC.
1. Connect the WiFi Bridge to a USB port and the Lan port on the PC.
2. Run the software and it will detect wireless networks in range.
3. Choose your network from the list.
4. Enter the passphrase for your wireless network.
5. A popup on the PC should say you are connected to a wireless network, the light on my wireless bridge turns blue when connected.
6. Remove the wireless bridge from the PC and connect it to the Spiderbox USB and Lan ports.
7. Allow it to connect and your done.

I can confirm that a Vonets from Goldwafers works perfectly in my Spiderbox. Was very simple to set up in PC with a CD that came with it . Then pugged into Spider and all fine. Distance from router 10 yards. (Obviously my PC became wireless during the setup and the internet worked fine). The Vonets works very poorly with the Foxsat Freesat stb for iplayer but that is a fault of the poor processor, (as I read!), in the Humax. Vonets. A great small product and good value!

Hum...why to connect electricity, USB cables of Vonets to Spider? USB connection is not enought to give energy to Vonets? Why electricity too?
the vonets can accept power from a usb port , but when one isnt available or not supplying sufficient power the vonets can be powered from a psu instead , so its either - or
the homeplugs are using the electrical ring mains to transmit data , and to take power for their own use , so spider plugs or solwise or belkin homeplugs always require electricity and electricity cables

There are 2 USB ports on the back of Spider. A Spider USB port provides ample power to drive the Vonets. (Not all Vonets have the power lead coming out of them anyway!). I have used Spiderplugs. They work great too. So unlike some other equipment that I have the Spider stb works very well including with ext hard drives. Why do I use Vonets on Spider? Because other bits of kit here are less stable and I have moved the Spiderplugs elsewhere. I can only find one downside. Spiderplugs 'connect' ie clear the 'ethernet' channels almost instantly when stb is fired up. Vonets takes around 8 secs to connect. That is just for starting up / connecting NOT subsequent zapping. So not a problem anyway!!

its also worth pointing out that the vonets is not a spiderbox accessory
its a method of wifi access available to all manner of items , not all of which have usb sockets
for instance , I could use it on a tm9100 for wifi access , and that has no usb ports so I would have to power it from a psu or a usb mains plug charger instead
another item it can be and is used on is the kryptview A780 box , again with no usb port for power
so it can be used for a variety of access problems , so never assume that an item you are told about is single use only , unless you are told that it is !

you will have to ask the supplier that question
if its a continental plug fitted , they usually give you a 13 amp converter plug if bought in the uk

(If anyone is reading this thread for info on Spiderbox / Wifi bridges albeit specifically Vonets in my case)..... Have just changed router. Put Vonets back in PC. Ran the software that sits in my PC that was originally with the Vonets on mini CD. Changed the key. Put back in Spiderbox. Worked without any problem or Spiderbox menu changes. I am 'a fan' of both Vonets and Spiderplugs as far as my Spiderbox is concerned!

Have bought a Vonets from sponsors for Spider Box but doesn't seem to power up from USB sockets, buts works well when tried in a laptop and connected to USB on that. Is there any adjustments I should make to ensure its works or should it work without . Any suggestions welcome as I can use power adaptor but as I ve used every socket (all 10) in TV location this would be inconvenient.

it should work from spider box usb socket , taking power the same way as on a laptop , but you could use a standard plug adapter with usb outlets , or a psu , unfortunately this would require another power socket
better still , run an ethernet cable direct from router to tv location like I did , and then use ethernet switches if more than one ethernet socket outlet is required
cable connection is always best

Phewww! How frustrating. In my case it fires up and flashes within a second or so. (Just to confirm....) I made no adjustments in the menu. Apart from swapping between the 2 usb sockets and restarting I have no idea. Sorry. If you have usb pen drives that fire up in the back of the Stb and as you say Vonets performed in the laptop then that is beyond crazy!! (Absolutely not logical I know BUT my 'ethernet' has been much more stable since I moved from Spiderplugs to Vonets!!).

thanks for the responses guys, appreciated, I have home plug providing lan connection for 2 receivers but it wont split to a third, which was why I bought the vonets as it was reported to work with Spider. Seems I will have to see if it will work with one of the other 2 receivers (although one I suspect has to have dedicated manufacturers bridge at silly cost)Thanks for the help again, seems it may be a bit of pot luck if it powers up on spider or I have faulty box but unlikely as both USBs wont fire it up.

Is there a difference between using a normal router and a 3G router?
I have one 3G router at home with 1.5/2MB speed (live in the countryside so) and was thinking if it is ok to work with Vonets.

Guys,
I just received my SpiderBox 9000 HD. Everything done and UCAS channels working fine, just checked MTV channels!
However, the Vonets cd is corrupted and doesn't work. Tried to download software from vonets website but download from their website is bad! Could somebody please send me the software?
By the way, what is the config for 2 LNB in a Discq in Spider? Tried several option but only Astra 19*E works fine, Hotbird Signal 80% but Quality 0%? Weird...
Here's a copy of the Vonets CD.

in simple diseqc have say astra on 1 and hotbird on 2 , or vice versa
and in sat setup , set diseqc port to 1 for one and 2 for the other , and use uncommit set to 1 or off as required/works for both
so one will be 1-1 , and the other will be 2-1 , where the first is diseqc port and the last number is uncommit
sometimes you can use 1 or 2 in diseqc port , and set to OFF in uncommit for both satellites

you need to have setup the vonets on your laptop and give it an ip address I believe , make sure it allows you to connect to the internet from your pc or laptop ( the instructions are on the disk )
then you plug it into the spiderbox making sure its powered , and make sure you get an ip connection to the router in the network settings
then you check if ethernet says connected ( to the gift )
if the above fails , plug the spiderbox directly into the router with an rj45 cable both ends and ensure ethernet is connected , just so you know the box is working ok

very weird :(
I will try to connect to my router but I would prefer to use wireless.

reboot the box by turning it off and on
the point about connecting using a cable was to test the box and router connection , not for long term use
make sure you have an ip address and mac code in ip setup
then make sure you have a greyed out login code in ethernet , if its blank it wont login

you have various choices to remedy that issue
you can use a vonets wifi adapter the same as Dr.House has done
or you can use a pair of homeplugs plugged into the ring mains instead
or you can connect a very long ethernet cable or category 5e cable joining the 2 locations like I did
so wireless , wired , or wireless over your house ring mains , the choice is yours , and wired is the cheapest , the best , and the most efficient
none of the above is anything to do with spiderboxes , or any other box , as its a LAN issue

Guys, I am having a problem now with my motor. I have a direct connection from my Spider to the motor of my dish. I memorise the position of all satellites that I needed and everything fine there.
I made a favourite list with channels from different satellites, but now when I am changing channels, the motor doesn't turn to some satellites.
I take a look at discq options but I can't understand diseqc port and uncommit option?! What could be the option to make the motor turn automatically when I am switching channels knowing that I have a direct connection box-->motor? Do I have to change something in the discq/uncommit options of all the satellites I have?
Another question, I would like to know if the information in this post really works on 9000HD.

I have always found its a bit hit and miss using lines in a cfg file on this box or similar boxes , but in theory it works if they are edited in notepad correctly
I prefer using the remote control method
as for the motorised section , if you use my channel list you may find I have set the diseqc port and uncommit to numbers for switches , so for a motor they should be OFF/OFF , or set to 1 and OFF , or set to 1/1
but ideally set to OFF and OFF , and nothing (OFF) in the simple diseqc settings too
the point here is they can be used with switches , or with motors and switches , and thats where it gets more complicated
in my channel list posts I always paste instructions in to sort out your diseqc settings , and it gets more complicated if using a vbox

Just a small question, the first days with my Spider, when I switch on my receiver, the channels from Spider appear directly on my TV. Now, when I switch on, I have to push the AV button on my TV in order to see the channels. I tried with another receiver and it works, so the problem is not my telly.
Probably it is something simple, but where in Spider can I make it possible to make channels appear directly when I switch on Spider?
Cheers!

when it was automatic were you using scart ?

Always using scart because my telly is old and don't have HDMI. I tried the button AV/TV in Spider remote but no difference in that. It is not a big issue for me, but just thought strange that now I can't do that anymore.
Another strange thing is that at night I put Spider in Standby and unplug from electricity but when I plug in next day, Spider is on directly, doesn't become to standby...

your tv is using scart control on pin 8 so make sure you use a fully wired scart lead and in any menus ensure scart control is set to ON if you want the spiderbox to switch to the scart av channel on booting
check the settings in the menu of the spiderbox , where it says control panel , video output
also check you have used the correct scart socket on the spiderbox and the tv too
the spiderbox will always boot up from cold , it wont care about being on standby the night before , a clean boot is a clean boot

Thanks for the information, I thought that if you let it in Standby it would return to Standby after unplug. But no problem. :)
About scart, I put in video output option: Scart. Now when Spider boot it appears directly on my telly (great) but picture is moving to the right right right...I have to push again AV button in my TV remote to have proper picture. I check scart socket in Spider and it is in the correct one (my telly too, just one). And If I change to Tv option on my remote, no terrestrial channels available because it continue with the AV channels but with Terrestrial channels sound.
Don't know where is the problem now, but the fact is that it was working fine the first days, something I changed in the options (?!)

better check the pal/ntsc/auto section then
study the manual too , as clearly you must have set it up for whatever tv standard you are using , and it cannot be correct if you get picture drift
it also could be you are using an old cr@ppy scart lead , possibly not fully wired , or a bad earth
try using a brand new scart lead that has 21 wires in it , not an old 9 pin one from a vcr
if in doubt read the manual again (RTFM)

CAPS just press the FAV's button on remote and it will change to Caps and back again to small letters.
