hi, one last question, which i wonder if anyone has any ideas.......

When i often record on my hard drive it works fine, but once the harddrive has gone into standby or after not being used for a while it wont instantly record, and i get this message:

"In order to record a timer, the tv was switch to the recording service"

If i then reboot the box it works fine, any ideas please, as you know its a usb hard drive, if i cant cure this then i can live with it, but i have googled this error and it seems others have it as well.

just tried another image still the same message, looks like im going to have to live with it
thanks

my hard drive is internal and iv never seen that error message so maybe its something to do with usb hdds...

or is it anything to do with your EPG setup... just a thought..!

Ive gone back to nemesis image, the error has gone, (i do lose the hard drive if i reboot the dreambox even though it sees it in the menu but wont allow me to record), but if do a system file check it works fine afterwards and allows to me to record, so i can live with that.
thanks guys for the replies to my threads.

If you look at my post in the tutorial section, it shows how to edit fstab for a usb drive, using its uuid

Post the result from the query

ls /dev/disk/by-uuid -lah

Then, what your fstab is

Post the result from the query

ls /dev/disk/by-uuid -lah

Then, what your fstab is

ok

when i do this command i see this
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/839/79551848.jpg/

so i added this to the fstab

/dev/disk/by-uuid/2fbdbd25-6be3-4a4f-9c8e-fc2b4ce07694 /media/hdd auto defaults 0 0

was that right, i wasnt really sure what i was doing to be honest

the default fstab was.........
rootfs / auto defaults 1 1
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs defaults 0 0
/dev/mtdblock2 /boot jffs2 ro 0 0
tmpfs /var tmpfs defaults 0 0
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults 0 0
/dev/sda1 /media/hdd auto defaults 0 0

The two numbers aren't the same!
Use the number in green from the ls command

However, the line you already had in fstab is also correct, it looks like the drive is going to sleep.
Have a go with the correct numbers
And
Just have a play with a usb key, just to proove that works.
But, if you are recording for about an hour in HD the files will be in excess of 7GB, so it should be formatted ext3
