Found all files in Var. folder are dated ,found some files in there with a nineteen seventies date and an nineteen eighties date which were affecting Mcas adversely.I only found this out after deleting them as the dates did not tally with any of the other dated files which were all in the range of 2010 and 2011.

lol i woudlnt mess with them mate!
What the EFF!!!
Never delete files or folders unless you know specifically what those files are, otherwise you're going to have some serious problems if you've deleted anything essential to the running of the operating system.
It's quite normal for certain folders/files to be dated 1970 on any Linux receiver.
This is a list of my root folder for example...
drwxrwxrwx 17 root root 0 Oct 31 2010 .
drwxrwxrwx 17 root root 0 Oct 31 2010 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Jan 1 2000 autofs
drwxrwxr-x 2 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 bin
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 boot
drwxr-xr-x 19 root root 3240 Nov 9 19:40 dev
drwx------ 31 root root 0 Jan 1 2000 etc
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Jan 1 1970 hdd -> media/hdd
drwxrwxr-x 3 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 home
drwxrwxr-x 4 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 lib
drwxrwxr-x 13 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 media
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 Jan 1 1970 mnt -> media
dr-xr-xr-x 86 root root 0 Jan 1 2000 proc
drwxrwxr-x 2 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 sbin
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jan 1 1970 share -> /usr/share
drwxr-xr-x 10 root root 0 Jan 1 2000 sys
drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 140 Nov 15 00:17 tmp
drwx------ 18 root root 0 Nov 22 2010 usr
drwxr-xr-x 10 1000 users 440 Jan 1 2000 var
