question regarding the var directory om an icecrypt s4000 hd

I am using the last issued icecrypt firmware , does the var directory only contain files related to different plugins ?

no , the var contains any VARiable files , so can have allsorts in it , same as a dreambox

Found all files in Var. folder are dated ,found some files in there with a nineteen seventies date and an nineteen eighties date which were affecting Mcas adversely.I only found this out after deleting them as the dates did not tally with any of the other dated files which were all in the range of 2010 and 2011.

Never delete files or folders unless you know specifically what those files are, otherwise you're going to have some serious problems if you've deleted anything essential to the running of the operating system.

It's quite normal for certain folders/files to be dated 1970 on any Linux receiver.

lol yeah ive noticed old files too, but thought oh well, nothing to do with me!! leave em safely alone.

Well I haven't noticed any problems only improvements

lets hope it stays that way - end of the day, nothing a reimage wouldnt sort (hopefully)

worst case - a AAF recovery tool job. (hope you have a serial cable handy just in case)
