View Full Version : Which HDD in DM8000
Can anybody tell me if SATA3 hard disks work in DM8000? The connector is probably the same as on SATA2 (which I´m using now), but the question is if the receiver supports SATA3. Has anybody a SATA3 hdd working in DM8000?

I'm not sure if it even supports sata 2. However sata2 is backwards compatible which means a sata2 disk will work on a sata 1 board. Sata 3 is also backwards compatible which means it should have no problem working on a sata 2 board, or even a sata 1 board.
Also there is no gain by supporting sata2 or sata3, unless you are transferring between 2 hard drives. The difference between sata 1, 2 and 3 is the data rate. Sata 1 supports speeds up to 1.5Gbit/s, sata 2 3Gbit/sec and sata3 6Gbit/sec. The data rate of a whole satellite transponder can reach something around 60Mbit/s which is not even near what sata1 supports.
I have a SATA2 in DM8000 and a SATA2 (in enclosure) connected to DM500 HD. No problem with either of them. So I understand both receivers are made to use SATA hard disks in general. Which one would you recommend me to buy: SATA or SATA2 to replace the existing SATA2 disks?
Let me tell you again that placing subtitles files on hdd instead in tuxbox folder (according to your instruction) works perfectly and solved my problem. Thanks a lot again.

Speedwise, when used in your sat receiver there will be no difference. Ftping, sshing, telneting etc. to the hard drive will also make no difference as the network speed is 100Mbit/s. The only reason i would go for the sata2 disk is because my pcs motherboard supports it. If my pcs motherboard supported sata3, maybe i would get a sata3 drive. That way i can still make good use of the hard drive even if i don't want to use it anymore inside my receiver.
