What is the map version number ? You should use v880.3868 with that navcore version.
Have a look at the guide posted in here.

If you used one of the maps I posted in here I've included a me ta file with it - so just direct the activation tool to that file.

The reason the maps did not work first of all was because i downloaded the map on an apple computer and unzipped it with the apple software and i then put it on a pen drive and put it on the windows computer. When i downloaded it on the windows computer and unzipped with win zip it was ok and i got no error message.I live and learn. Thanks

If you are using a Genuine version of Navcore then you will need to 'Patch' the "ttsystem" file on your Tomtom if you want to use a 'copied' map. Use Tomtom Home to update your Tomtom to the latest version of Navcore before you do any patching or adding any new maps.

********************************* ************************

Here's Albert's Activation Tool v0.57.21 dated 06-12-09

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7FNBBTBZ

Use this tool to patch the ttsystem file on your Tomtom if you are using genuine copy of Navcore (Tomtom software), use STEP 6 to do this task.

As I've never had much success, I guess I'm doing something wrong, so let me start from the beginning.

My One XL is App 8.010 (9369/080529) OS:190943 GPS v1.21 Boot5.5106

Now I want to put a "Europe_West_1GB_885_4058" on a spare SD card and activate it. The compatibility chart says this is OK.

My lack of knowledge means that I don't really know what I'm doing from here in.

Do I put all the files in the 885_4058 distribution onto the SD?

When the SD is in does any part of the internal memory still get used or is the SD fully standalone?

Do I have to replace the me.ta file or any others on the SD with the ones already on my One XL?

I'm sure this is easy once I conquer it but . . . . :blush5:

If there is not another folder inside that folder then copy the folder named Europe_West_1GB_885_4058 onto the memory card, if there is another folder inside (could possibly be named Europe_West_1GB) - then copy that folder.
It still should use the files from the internal memory
Make sure you have patched the ttsystem file on your tomtom & then activate the map.
The me ta file is the info that the map activation tool needs to activate the map.

Russell, I have a Tomtom XL (HDD version) App 8.083. Which map works with this tomtom? Tried a couple on this site but states no map. Used autoactivate and fastactivate to patch the maps without success.

thanks, eVo

Well I've succeeded - - many thanks Russell1.

I copied all the backup files to the SD card then added the Europe_West map.
I used Albert's utility and all is well.

What is strange though is that the SD still has the original Map folder on it but the TT can't see it. No problem as I can remove the SD and it reverts to the original map.
