Hey all,

I’ve noticed that there has been a recent uptake in the number of people wanting to know how to install TomTom Software onto an F&H GPS35LS SatNav, from which there are a few ways of going about it. However for the majority of people that are asking this, I’m sure it isn’t something they do on an everyday basis, so I’ve put together a simple step-by-step guide, outlining what I feel would be the path of least resistance for someone new to the SatNav game.

Towards the end I’ve also included instructions on how to add additional voices and may expand on this to include additional content such as traffic cameras etc. when I find the time.

Overview
The GPS35LS runs Windows CE Core 5.0 (I’ve found a few sellers that say it ships with v6, however this is simply not true). The GPS software that is installed onto the device by default is Kudos Navigator. We will be installing the TomTom Software (TT7910) onto a MicroSD card, this way we avoid the possibility of bricking the device or any pesky warranty issues if you have to send it back in the future.

Hardware

F&H GPS35LS SatNav
2GB MicroSD Card (Device can support up to 8GB)

Software
All the software you’ll need can be found or referenced on the forum. For this tutorial at the time of writing you can find the following software in the following threads.

TomTom Software - (tt7910.zip) – Can be found on the “navigo menu files , tools , games etc (https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?150383-navigo-menu-files-tools-games-etc)” thread.

UK & ROI Maps - (United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland 890.4234) – Can be found on the “https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?156375-UK-amp-RoI-v890-4222-Map” thread. Make sure it is the correct file from the second post

BBS Tools – (setup_BBS_Tools.zip) - Can found on the “https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?156343-BBS-Tools-v1-0-57-Release-Date-26th-March-2012” thread.

Celebrity Voice Pack – (full_voice_pack.rar) - Can be found on the “various celebrity voices pack (https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?111885-various-celebrity-voices-pack)” thread.

To check for the latest updates to maps etc, have a look at the “Navigo / Foehn & Hirsch & Clones (https://www.satpimps.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?134-Navigo-Foehn-amp-Hirsch-amp-Clones)” and the “TomTom GO (https://www.satpimps.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?135-TomTom-GO)” sub-forums.

TomTom 7910 Installation
Insert MicroSD into device and turn it on.
Connect device to your computer via USB cable provided in the box.
2 Drives should mount. You want to ignore the TFAT drive for this tutorial and only use the other drive, which should be your MicroSD card.

Extract the contents of the tt7910.zip file into a folder.
Look at where you extracted of the previous file, there should be a folder in there called “mobilenavigator”. Copy this folder to your MicroSD card drive. (Just to reiterate, we are ignoring the TFAT drive completely in this tutorial).
E.g. E:\mobilenavigator (where E is the MicroSD drive letter).

Extract the contents of the “United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_I reland_***_****.zip” file into a folder.
Inside this folder there will be another folder containing you’re map files and a me ta.txt file.
Copy this other folder that is next to the me ta.txt file to the MicroSD card.
E.g. E:\ United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ir eland_***_****

Disconnect the devices USB cable from the device.
Tell the device to load our new software when we press the GPS Icon.
Click on settings.
Click right arrow until you see “NaviPath”
Click on “NaviPath” and then select magnifying glass.
Choose SDMMC
Choose “mobilenavigator”
Choose “mobilenavigator.exe” (should be first one)
Press close (x) at top right.
Press close (x) at top right again to leave settings.

Click on GPS and wait for the red “Activation Failed” screen. Don’t panic, this is expected. This has generated a file that we will need.
Hold Power until the device asks to shut down and click shut down, afterwards turn the device back on and connect it to your computer via the USB cable again. Both drives should also mount again.
Install the BBS Tools onto your computer. This is a fairly standard process for installing any software.
Run BBS Tools as Administrator
Right Click and Choose “Run As Administrator”
Choose Your language from the Drop down list and click ok

Click “Search Device Unit” near middle of application screen.
Select you’re Micro SSD card drive. This should be the same drive you copied over the “mobilenavigator” and the maps folder to.
If everything has gone well so far, a few fields should now be populated with the information from your device. E.g. Device name, Version etc.

From the top menu bar, select “KeyGen”, “****.txt” and then “Search Update”
If a new version is available, it will ask you if you want to download it. Select yes and then click the download button.
When it’s downloaded successfully click the OK button.

Now open the “me ta.txt” file you extracted from the “United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_I reland_***_****.zip” file.
Select all the text inside this file and copy it.

Go back to the BBS Tools Application and click on the “KeyGen” menu option again and go to “me ta.txt”, and then to “Edit”. Notepad (or your default txt file editor) will open.
Paste the text you copied from the "me ta.txt” file in step 17.1 at the very top of the file BBS Tools just opened for you. (Make sure these are on 2 new lines), then save and close the file.
Click on the “KeyGen” menu option again, and then go to “Patch maps v7/8, Speed Cam and voices”. A new window should popup.
Click “Select Map” and then select the folder you copied to the MicroSD card that contains the map from step 7.
E.g. E:\ United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ir eland_***_****

Choose the “*.****.dct v.8” radio button.
Click “Activate Map/Speed Cam” and wait a second or two, afterwards a popup boxd should appear saying “Map Activated”.
Close BBS Tools and disconnect device from USB.
Click “GPS” on menu screen and you’re done.

Getting GPS Signal to work
Load the TomTom Software by pressing “GPS” from the main screen.
Once the TomTom software has loaded press anywhere on the screen to bring up our main menu.
Chose “Change preferences”
Click the right arrow until you see the option “Show GPS status” and select it.
Click “Configure” at the bottom left.
Select “Other NMEA GPS receiver”
Set GPS baud rate to 38400 (com7) and click “Done”
Click “GloNav GPS Driver”
Click done

Adding Custom Voices
Connect device to computer using USB.
Extract “voices.zip”
Choose the voice you want.
Go into the folder and copy all the files in it.
Go to your device drive.
Go to the “mobilenavigator” folder and then into voices.
Paste the voice files into this directory.

tom tom stuff is in here if available https://www.satpimps.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?135-TomTom-GO

890 maps are here https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?156375-UK-amp-RoI-v890-4222-Map
in post 2 and it is still valid and needs the v7 navcore and that post has the me ta file too

880 maps are here https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?152674-United-Kingdom-and-Republic-of-Ireland-v880-maps-%28Nov-2011%29 and the link is still valid

bbs tools 1.0.57 26mar2012 is here https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?156343-BBS-Tools-v1-0-57-Release-Date-26th-March-2012 (still valid too)

tt 7.910 is the navcore you require for navigo and f+h units and links and downloads and info are in this thread here https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?153529-HOWTO-Install-TomTom-7910-onto-F-amp-H-GPS35LS

NB:- the 870 maps megaupload link is now "dead" as its extremely old anyway

for patching the maps, try this

the me ta is copied and pasted into bbs using one of the icons on the left (the me ta icon)

but I just use the bbs tools top menu to d/l the up to date full me ta instead from the net

or its easier to copy the fast activator exe tool to the root of the sdcard, then backup the voices folder in mobile navigator to your pc, and then delete the voices folder on the sdcard
now run the fast activator from explorer and patch the maps
then copy and paste the voices folder back

I have just updated my f+h v3 to these 2013 v905-4800 maps here

https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?161355-United-Kingdom-and-Republic-of-Ireland-v905-4800-map

I also uploaded the m*ta txt file to make it easier for others to use

the maps etc work fine but I did have an out of memory message when trying to load them up after activating with fastactivator

I traced this to having too many old POI in the same map folder, so removed some of the larger unwanted and older POI`s and now it works and loads up

also bear in mind to backup your voices folder in mobilenavigator and then delete this "voices" folder before activating the maps, restoring it again afterwards. this is to prevent problems cause by fastactivator as mentioned in other threads on here

the tomtom (mobilenavigator.exe) remains the same as always at navcore version 7.910 so no other changes were made there

I also added the latest 2013 postcode files too and reset my "home" section as it was blanked out afterwards, and check or set your voice too

previous tom tom 3 navcore v7.910 none ALG+IQ ROUTES maps that worked ok were

870_3417
880_3868
890_4234
895_4444
900_4608

and 905_4800

the newer maps can seem sluggish on some models and the sd card capacity can be nearly full if other maps are also used on the same 2 gig sd card
