ive got an old blu ray player, hypothetically, will it show 3d bluray? is it a firmware issue?
is it just the tv that needs to be 3d or does the bluray player need to be 3d too?
3d bluray player is needed for retail 3d/ bluray rips. You can play the SBS (side by side) reencodes on a standard bluray player though. Sky's 3d channel uses the SBS format, its not as good as retail 3D though as SBS is half the resolution., basically 2 960x1080 images as opposed to 2 1920x1080 on bluray 3D

I've got an older bluray player by LG. This device is unable to supply a 3D picture from a 3D bluray disc. However at least this bluray player allows to supply a 2D picture from a 3D bluray disc. As far as I know there is no upgrade available which could improve the bluray player from 2D to 3D.
