broken 5300s & 5400s is it patches causing problems

wondering if new software can knacker recievers up got about 5 machines here that seems to have gone t&ts up after loading patches that allow box to do other things then what happens box comes on and after about 20 seconds it just freezes and remote wont work or box wont switch over or do anything paid a bit for em shame to throw em away anyone aware of this problem and is there a way of fixing it please! tried a factory reset b4 freeze but doesnt make any differance.
