If you do a format data (accessable via the plugin menu when you present the usb stick to the machine) before installing the plugin it clears the var folder completely or you can clear everything in your var folder using your pc via ftp software, I use File zilla (free download).
My machine is the 6000 so not sure if the above is relevant for 4000.
I have also found that by doing a "format data" it gets rid of any residual problems affecting the op of the machine from past plugins i.e. locking up of box

geoffh is correct.
Use the "format user data" option when installing new plugins to clear the var folder.
It is relevant for the Icecrypt S3500, S4000 and the STC6000 models.
Deleting them in the plugin menu does not remove them from the memory only from the plugin menu so they are still taking up valuable space.
