Having failed to stream video from DB to PC via VLC went on to try
DB Webcontrol, setup using Win 7 media player & IE8.

To start with all appeared ok with Webcontrol but..it then ceased to
function. On inspection of DB found at least 2 sets of channels
were dimmed out on differents Sats, also could not move dish.

Luckily after hard reset of image all was working again. This happened
again after retry with error message "Tuner not found".

On the 3rd attempt it appeared to work ok, could select channels
& move dish. However, could only get FTA channels. The decoded
channels on DB that opened via TV would not open on Webcontrol.

Either I've missed something or Webcontrol has limited use.

What is the best way to stream channels to my PC & show channels
that have been decoded via DB.

Any advice from the experts would be appreciated.

The simplest way is by entering the web interface and clicking on the blue icon, just right to the channel you want to watch, which says "stream channel"

Thanks for the reply jimrare. Although I have been using the
right hand blue/TV icons it's a job to find the required channel
mainly as I have to learn the providers.

However, were you referring to the near top right hand blue
TV icon. Thanks, that does auto pick up the channel you select
on DB.

When I had been testing Webcontrol noticed the top Icon had
gone to BBC World News & was useable but not picked up that
it auto selected original channel DB was set to.

Had been trying to use the interface to select any channel. Also
believe there are other methods I have yet to learn.

However, were you referring to the near top right hand blue
TV icon. Thanks, that does auto pick up the channel you select
on DB.That blue tv icon is what i am referring to. When a channel is selected that icon will appear top right. However you can find the same icon to the right of every channel in your channel list. You might need to scroll a bit to the right if it is not visible.

As for other methods of streaming, i have installed xbmc in the past (google it) and i was able to stream directly to my pc. There is also an iphone/ipad app named "Dreambox live app" however i haven't tested it. As for Webcontrol this is the first time i have heard of it, however i haven't looked into streaming that deeply so there could be even more applications around.

Thanks for the added information jimrare. Webcontrol is also known
under a different name which I will have to look up but...it's installed
in image so we are probably talking about same prog. Just put DB
url into Browser & up it pops.

Tried the DB url then /video.m3u in VLC, was using http but didn't
get it to work. From some instructions I found for earlier DBs.

Next stage is to stream files to DB from PC !!!

Hi catoro
Streaming files - ie channels or films from Pc to DB? If the latter its easy - setup a mount point. menu/system/setup/network/ LAN connection. Once there mount manager /add new network point. Settings are enable/local pc name eg.'catorospc'/CIFS share/pc IP address - 19 168 1 **/ name of folder eg 'films'/no/rw/pcname agin/and then a password [pc's ]. Click OK and then you can select all files from media player/ HDD and select name of computer - scroll down to movies and select. Ive never streamed channels from pc to DB so dont know!! Good luck - Brain PS Can anyone suggest a good streaming prog for the macbooks - I too have tried the VLC m3u thing and it hasnt worked. Cracked it - Found VLC 2.0 - that does it well - yes.

I addition to the above I have been trying for quite while to stream from DB to PC but this time I think I have cracked it on my Macbook - downloaded VLC 2.0 for mac and streaming is at last possible. It also carries a lot f streaming things from online. Cheers - Brain

@ Brain.

Thanks for the information Brain, thing that always gets me
is the word "Mount! Will have to transpose that to PC language
to make it easier to follow.

I have found VLC v2.0, was using 1.1.11. Am using version that
runs from folder as don't want it integrated on PC. Have setup
Win Media Player to stream from DB & it auto loads. Still to
look at other options.

Installed the VLC plugin on DB but yet to try. I may use NAS drive
instead of PC. The NAS drive is networked & 1 terrabyte HD +
2nd HD in X Raid, it's 10/100/1000 so faster than DB. Need to add
Media files to it, though mainly use my media player. Plays all formats
& restarts playback where you left off after shutdown.

@catoro
'Mount' refers to the DB - If you set your pc to 'share' ie a folder given a name - say 'films' - then once you have the IP address for your comp then proceed with DB as shown above - post 6 - 'mountmanager' is a Dreambox feature. Do integrate the VLC on your comp - it is one of the most versatile and best players around - if VLC wont play it then not much else will. Cheers - Brain.PS if you feel like clicking the thanks button do feel free - LOL - B

What's this "Thanksgiving" day Brain !!! LOL.

Tried VLC 2.0 on PC but still won't see DB, may be because it's
in folder & not installed version. As I can stream channels via
http it's not a problem. Couldn't find port setting on new VLC ver,
may look later at seup info on net but had originally used port 80,
& given firewall permissions.

Don't know what ver VLC player is on DB but... one I dld via
addons. DB sees my PCs ok but passwords are a problem. Only
use a high encrypted code password which is on DB plus user name.
I don't use a pass for PC as inconvenient just for network.

Thanks for the explanation.
