Hi all - I've read several posts stating that it is possible to receive a good signal for the majority of channels on 30w on a Zone 1 dish in SE England.

Yesterday I thought I would give this a try but after several hours I still can't receive anything. Any idea's? I think it may be something to do with the restricted skew of the Sly LNB - but I didn't know if anyone else has has some luck receiving it with this set up.

Thanks in advance - Gr8guy

here in the n/w I use a zone 2 for 30w and it works fine , although obviously you have to reverse the skew compared to 28e

not sure that a zone 1 is suitable for this but you never know

so make sure that you alter the skew to the reverse amount compared to sly
sly skew is about 7 o clock , so 30w skew is about 5 o clock when looking from the lnb end of the dish

You can pick 30 west up on a Zone 1 if your using the official Sly single or Quad LNB then loosen the LNB holder to get the correct skew as your probably aware its ridged 1-5 for sly use in different parts of the country. And this is what hinders it sometimes, An aftermarket cheap LNB would be better.

I can vouch that a zone 1 works. Bought a portable deal (44cm with tripod). Was messing about and looked at Lyngsat maps and it's on the zone for 50cm dish. so I gave it a try on 10730H 27500 3/4. The dish will need to dip down a little. Bascically I locked onto 13e Jscsports got 100% quality then dipped the dish till I got 60% and then gentley moved the dish round. The LNB skew is important to

Just to let everyone know I cut away some of the LNB cover to extend the skew and can now receive 30w - once I have fixed the dish I will post some photo's later in the week for others who may face the same problem in the future. Thanks everyone!

I live in north herts and use zone 1 dish on 30 west on TM6800 stb signal is 78% using tm.2 lnb the best I could get on sky lnb after cutting the case was 45% waltwal

So I fixed the dish but the signal was very weak and would break up at various points during the day. I opted to replace the sky lnb with an Inverto Black Ultra and the first impressions are very good.

-------------------Sky LNB--------------------Inverto Black Ultra
Al Jazzera Int -S=73% --- Q=79% ------------- S=80% --- Q=81%

and no picture breakups!

I've posted the images below for future reference, it 'can' be done with a sky lnb, but only as a stop-gap or last resort.

It is always better to increase the dish size rather than spend a fortune on an ultra low noise LNB.

A 60cm dish gives an almost 80% greater signal than a 45cm one - and that for just 25 Euros.
