For future use am looking to make more use of STB. I don't want
to break any rules but gather Spiderbox uses Clines. Is there a
simple way to setup for a paid service but non share.

At present mainly use Protek 9760HD.

Any advice appreciated.

The DM8000 as far as I can tell should be able to use most if not all legal viewing cards, one or two types may need a little additional configuration. DM7000, 7020 & 800 certainly can.

I'm also disappointed at you reply sonic1. I posted for help & advice.
Personally don't have your expertise & you have helped me in the
past. I'm stuck with a £1,000 worth of equipment which was a bad
mistake. Have set it up to update codes at a press of a button
but not much of interest. As an OAP cash, since the crunch has become tighter & 1 option is to get rid of DB. Don't like to leave equipment
running 24/7 to get into a group, also my knowledge of Linux is limited.

However..If it were a Win 7 PC with 1000mb/s read & write needed
I can build one.

Might also add I looked through a box of cams to see if I could help,
Re your request at Den !!!

I know for a fact that with a different STB there is a cheap & good
provider, I don't know who at present.

Buying a card would be an alternative, but what would you do in my
position. At present get plenty from Protek with free package. Also it
uses very little bandwidth.

@ donki, thank you for your kindly advice.

PS. re the thanks for
Sonic 1s post. A bit of sound advice would have been better appreciated,
perhaps I should have gone to a friendly Forum. !!!

Do not take the thanks given to sonic's post as being negative towards you.

The point is that pay servers are VERY bad news, not only for you but for cs as a whole.

I'm sure if you were to purchase a package of some sort, someone would be willing to help you out to make sure you got the most from it.

@Catoro

I am disappointed with all those who are against payservers, but at the same time are encouraging people to buy boxes like the one you already have (Protek 9760HD with the so called "Suoer Gift" patch) or even spiderboxes with the so called "free gift" and I guess there are a few others out there. These are also s***bag payservers disguised within a box. It is exactly like buying a clone dreambox with a payserver account already into it. I would suggest you drop all of them.

The trouble with payservers is they draw attention to what is an enthusiasts hobby which will eventually mean that Pay TV company's will find ways to stop it which in turn will also ruin it for the private enthusiast.

The other issue is that payservers don't really give a **** about their customers and just take money for what is 99% a pretty awful and unreliable "service". In addition these servers are prone to disappearing without any notice whatsoever leaving the poor punter high and dry without any recourse whatsoever. AVOID!!!

Best advice is, if you want more than your local country's service then use your own legal local subscription and find a private group of enthusiasts (it aint difficult). At least that way you can pick and choose without loosing your shirt every time something changes.

Thanks to all for the replies & sorry for delay. Having been away
from the Sat Scene so long was unaware of the animosity towards
Servers.

Sonic1 has PMd me & explained the situation, so all is sorted & sorry if
I misunderstood.

However... I would like to point out when Sat started the clever
people cracked codes for free but...the first purchase was the
Progammer. From there we bought string codes, then modified
Cams, Cards & Decoders. These people were earning a living
by leaching off Sat companies. I never saw any complaints from
Members at that time. Servers may be different as they run via net,
the end result is viewing & your paying someone, not too different.

The difference is they have you on their server and if they get nicked so might you. In one case there was a plea bargain and the server owner offered up a few details.

Well I can't argue with that Dreamcatcher. I have equally been at risk dling. Two
of my providers went down & at least one gave details but.. due to cir***stance
virtually hadn't used for a year. I lost money but a clean sheet that year.

Snag is, even with sharing there is a risk.

Agree, if you 'advertise' (here or on any other site) you are looking to (ahem) 'share', how do you know you can trust those you share with?
It's a scary situation to start out from, who to trust, what if it went **** up and one of your peers turns out to be another Lee Gibling!
