After dusting off my old azbox premuim after years of collecting dust in the loft, I updated this crappy box and it still doesnt record properly.

Thinking of buying a new box........ Not sure if I should buy the spiderbox with 1080p ( I have a plasma 50inch Panasonic 1080p so could playback downloaded Mkv files) or go for the vu?

How long would the gift last from the spiderbox? (I have never tried cs).

Is there much open with softcam files if I use the vu?

What is the pic quality like in HD between the boxes?

You are comparing two different receivers, the VU+ being linux based, so harder to set up, the Spiderbox being easy to set up but not as versatile.
The Spiderbox gift lasts 12 months and setting up CCCam is easy, I'm still using my 9000HD long after the gift expired.
There are a lot of other HD receivers, on the market, but it all depends on your requirements. For a cheap, reasonable, receiver I've read good reviews concerning the skybox F3 for only around £50, but it doesn't come with a gift.
The Spiderbox must be one of the easiest receivers to set up, and get running.
Not a lot open with a softcam file, some good channels on 19.2E, a few on 39E, and various others, when keys are known, the softcams usually list what's available,

Are we allowed to discuss how safe it is to use the gift?

playing back mkv files on a spiderbox is a new one on me

I have done it on my 9000 with some divx files, although they dont all play without modifications to some of those divx files (the ones it tells you are unsupported)

so unless a 9900 can do this with mkv files too, I would have said no it cannot

also a spiderbox cannot accept an internal hdd either

safety is in the eye of the beholder as far as cs is concerned

The Spiderbox 9000 does not play MKV's the 9900 Does but does not read NTFS drives so it can only read fat32 with 4gb limitation the VU Uno will play MKV's with mediaplayer deluxe but does crash some times and read NTFS drives
