Try formatting the memory stick in the Spiderbox (menu-USB-OK-Yellow) that should do the trick.

use windows explorer and check its properties, and ensure its fat32, if not , format it in explorer as fat32

I did and still wont work, I guess it just isn't compatible which is very weird
Also with the Spiderbox, depending on which version you have there could be 2 USB slots on the Rear, or 1 Front & 1 Rear, you have to configure these slots by pressing the Red Button and depending which slot you are using configure that one.

I have a Sandisk Cruzer 8GB and it works fine in my Spiderbox, maybe you have a Duff USB Stick. I also have a Integral 32 GB & a Pariot 64GB USB, I have just tried them and they are recognised by the receiver, when you say " Yes did all " did you get the message " Not Recognised ", if so did you Press the Yellow Button to Format the USB Stick.

I cant do anything because the box doesn't think there's a memory stick in

Could you get someone else to format and try the USB Stick for you, before having to return it.

its free and will format just about anything, I had trouble with a usb that had a partition and would not format in fat 32, this proggy sorted it.
Watch you dont format your C drive when you use it as its listed alongside your usb stick, I made a post about it a few months back, I'll try and locate it for you.

Q/ New 64 GB usb wont format or work !
A/
Windows supports FAT32 up to a volume size of ~2TB (16TB in some cases), except there is a file size limit of 4GB. The most recent version of Windows to not natively support FAT32 was NT4.0 as far as I'm aware (around the Win95 era).
I would recommend using a program such as EASEUS Partition Manager to remove the partition if it is not wanted and to format the drive.
--------------------
A/ EASEUS Partition Manager worked a treat, and its free for the home edition.
The only word of warning is that its very slow, also once you have selected a course of action you have to press apply on the top tool type bar or else it just sits there and does nothing.
Also doubly check that its your usb drive you are adjusting and not your c drive, the two are listed very close together, I wouldn't want to start wiping the c drive in error !
XP wouldn't format this usb, I tried countless times, there must be a restriction of some sort in place obstructing this action.

xp has a format maximum of 32 gig too for fat32 using its own tools, they expect you to use NTFS for larger partitions
I use easeus after seeing your post on here about it, mainly for hdd drives, as it can partition and resize and format etc
I tend to change the drive letter of my usb sticks to get away from say D so its nowhere near C
mine tend to be J for jumpdrive, but you could use say U for usb stick, or X or some other letter towards Z so its nowhere near C
I cannot say if it will fix this problem with that stick and the spiderbox, but some sticks have security on them and are not "normal" when first bought
they also tend to be fat and not fat32 when bought new

As I recall, don't cruzers (or some of them) come with system files on them so they then show up with two drive letters. If so you need to make sure you are formatting the right drive letter. I.E. the one with the space on it.

some do yes, I think its this security thing
I have bought some usb drives in the past and there was a software tool to remove the security on them and return them back to standard usb sticks
you just never can tell until you try them
Could this be the software being referred to:

Firstly establish if you have a faulty usb drive. You can do this by trying it in a pc or laptop. If it's not recognised here then there is no point trying it in the stb. If the computer DOES see the usb drive then try adding and deleting some files. As others here said if the computer sees the drive but it is not formatted then you'll need some sw to do this. My main point is that you need to see if its faulty or not before trying to get it working in your spiderbox.
finally - i found an post with the identical problem you have:
