Just a quickie guys. I have always had no problems playing .avi on the 8000 but was recently given a whole set of files of Prison Break to watch. They open on mac with Quicktime.Divx and VLC but having uploaded to the HDD on my 8000 they steadfastly refuse to start. Any ideas? Help greatly appreciated. thanks - Brain

The chip of a dreambox 8000 can decode specific types of encoded movies.

DM8000 (https://www.goldwafers.co.uk/Dreambox-DM8000-HD.html) chip: BCM7400
features: AVC(H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10), MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Part 2, DivX, and VC-1 video decoding technology
A .avi file can contain all of the above encodings plus many more. What you need is to find out whether the movie you are trying to play is supported by your box (which it obviously isn't). You can use a free tool called mediainfo to find out what kind of move is within your .avi file.

Thanks M8 - that is a very interesting bit of info. I will do as you say - any chance though that the title could affect this? Daft as it may seem all come with a title. More than one word and it wont play - thats as far as i have gone checking them anyway! Cheers - Brain
