XP COM PORT SETUP

go to start ,go to my computer right click and go to properties

go to hardware tab **** device manager go to ports ( COM & LPT )

click on the little + sign and find com port 1 or what ever com port number it says , remember the number Communications Port

click on it to highlight it then right click it go to properties then look for port setting tab on top

click that i there you will see

bits per second set this to ======= 115200

data bits ========= 8

parity ============ None

stop bits ========= 1

flow control ====== None

then go to advance button and press ok

next setting in there is

tick the top option MAKE SURE THIS IS TICKED

receiver buffer ======== High (14)

Transmit buffer ======== High (16)

com port number use the tab on the side and change it to 1 if it says in use ignore it and force it to use this

MAKE SURE WHEN YOU DO THESE SETTING YOU PRESS OK ON THE RIGHT TO SAVE ON FIRST BOX

THEN OK ON THE NEXT BOX AS WELL THIS MUST BE DONE

THEN GO BACK INTO THE DEVICE MANAGER AND CHECK YOUR SETTING TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE CORRECT

This is a video of how to configure your comport so as you can select what ever number port you want to use with your null modem cable for flashing your boxes

you have to choose between comport 1 - 4 so if your pc says that they are taken just select com 1 or the other numbers and say yes to whatever else comes up you will get a warning just keep going and you will be sorted

THIS FILE IS A WINDOWS MEDIA FILE SO EITHER OPEN OR SAVE TO YOUR DESKTOP

To Assign A USB Port Using Vista:

Although technically Vista does call the system "Computer" whereas XP refers to it as "My Computer"

START
Right Click "COMPUTER"
Choose "MANAGE"
In the resulting window, click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
In the right hand pane, click on the little plus sign beside "PORTS" in the right hand pane.
Right click on the USB Adapter (Should be something like “USB Serial Port COM # or "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm. Port (COM#) or “Communications Port” (COM #) )
Choose "PROPERTIES"
Click on "PORT SETTINGS" TAB
Click on "ADVANCED"
Then you will see the COM Port Number Box. You should be able to change it there using the drop down box.
Try to set it to COM2
also change the baud rate to 115,200 from the default setting of 9600
Restart Windows (If necessary but normally not required)

NULL MODEM CABLES

These are the cables you need to flash the REPAIR firmware.

Try to make sure you are using a standard desktop pc with a 9 pin com port built in (no usb adapters), preferably running XP, and that the cable is a 9 pin serial CROSSOVER cable , known as a null modem cable, with 9 pin D plugs on both ends, as shown below

Also ensure you are using the correct bin files for the model of spiderbox you are fixing, each model has its own files

If you have a computer or a laptop with a 9 pin serial com port which is male on the back all you will need is this cable, bear in mind modern pc towers , desktops and laptops DO NOT HAVE the 9 pin serial com port required, do not mistake the 15 pin blue VGA port for a com port, its a video port for a monitor, NOT a com port

they are a lot cheaper on @uct1on sites

they are also known as CROSSOVER cables due to the fact that pins 2 and 3 are "crossed over" when connected

Simple Null Modem Cable

pin 2 is wired to pin 3 (Rx to Tx)
pin 3 is wired to pin 2 (Tx to Rx)
pin 5 is wired to pin 5 (Ground)

only 3 wires are needed so its very easy to make your own bespoke lead

Null Modem Cable with Handshaking

pin 2 is wired to pin 3 (Rx to Tx)
pin 3 is wired to pin 2 (Tx to Rx)
pin 5 is wired to pin 5 (Ground)
pin 7 is wired to pin 8 (RTS to CTS)
pin 8 is wired to pin 7 (CTS to RTS)


an RS232 cable is incorrect as its STRAIGHT WIRED and is usually male to female plug and socket , it can be used to extend a null modem cable however
