Guys I have got my daughter a unlocked HTC desire and put her sim card in from her Wildfire and I have managed to get internet working etc but something bothers me and that is it shows the wrong phone number under "about phone, phone identity" I guess it shows the previous owner number.
Anyone got any ideas how to get it to show my girls number from her sim.

To reset the reported SIM MSISDN on a Samsung Galaxy ****** i5500 (Android 2.1):
* Go to phone-book
* Select "Contacts"
* Press the "Menu" button (the left-most buttton under the screen)
* Select "More"
* Select "Settings"
* Select "Own numbers"
then edit the number to the correct MSISDN number.

Note that you may then need to reboot the phone (power off and on again) to ensure that all applications re-read this corrected MSISDN number from the SIM.

Might it not be advisable to reset to factory settings anyway? There could be software lurking there which is not immediately visible.I know that some of these security apps that allow you to find a stolen phone lurk in the background without being obvious.These could allow the previous owner to connect to the phone and access data.

OK I did go a factory reset but I'll do it again.
