Hi another question.......

How can I tell that both Sat. feeds working? Because I've tried to record one channel and watch another and I get this message

can't change service

or do I need to turn something on or off?

Thanks

R u using polaredit?

1-either use polaredit
2-re-scan channels and when prompted, copy to second tuner
3-email me fdu list and I'll sort it with 5mins :)

All done, install as usual.

An easier option would have been to use the "Copy" function (service options is the blue button in the service menu) select copy tuner one to tuner 2.

many thanks to all. All sorted - thanks guys a really useful forum :)

I don't suppose you know how you can see the recordings from a windows system viewing the UNC path? I've found recordings but in the directory its empty?

I'm pretty sure you hit the OK button while watching a channel, once in channel listing, hit the red button until you get to the tuner section and select all tuners.

Good luck.

Hi the problem here is the file naming. In older versions of the firmware it was easily possible to view from a remote system using VLC player or similar. Sadly the firmware got changed a few releases back and the recorded files are now named with a ascii control character in the file name (it would be good if someone knowledgeable here (ColdAsIce?) could say how to avoid this).
In order to play the files on windows I now log onto the STC6000 create a subdirectory in the file system and then copy the recorded file using some generic copy that matches as few files as possible to the subdirectory. I generally carry on that process using cp/mv/rm until I am down to the one file I actually want which I can then rename to a more user friendly name. It is generally fairly quick but as yet I am not sure exactly what the ascii character is order to be able to do something like cp \xxxxreadablefilename\xxxx.ts humanreadable.ts (xxxx is the ascii code for the control character being used in these recorded file names).

Having had a rant in another STC6000 thread about encrypted epg program names I'm interested in your problem and a bit puzzled. I can access the 6000 filesystem from Windows Explorer:- (showing from command prompt for ease)

C:\WINDOWS\system32>net use

Are you able to connect your box to a "home" network and see if windows copy/rename would help you.
The only reason I can think for an "accidental" invalid filename is if there is some problem over character code pages. I don't know the "Linux rules" but Windows now accepts unicode caharacters so apart from \,:etc anything goes.

Of course it is possible it is a code page issue but I don't think there is much that accepts this as a valid file name. So here, same directory, same time. one listed from a logon to the STC6000 and one (windows) listed from the windows file share. (I hope the pictures work I never tried to attach any to a forum before)

As you can see only one attachment came through. Is this your problem:
My recordings directory. To get there from Y:\ the cd command is case sensitive eg recordings is not recognised.
Directory of Y:\STORAGE\HDD\Recordings

01/12/2012 20:00 <DIR> .
01/12/2012 19:45 <DIR> ..
01/12/2012 17:34 568,464 Grand Designs.idx
01/12/2012 17:34 50,416 Grand Designs.rap
21/11/2012 21:00 4,294,702,080 Grand Designs.ts
21/11/2012 22:00 45,288,448 Grand Designs.ts1
19/11/2012 22:00 568,960 Instruments of Death.idx
19/11/2012 21:59 53,264 Instruments of Death.rap
19/11/2012 21:00 877,824,640 Instruments of Death.ts

The default filenames are long and some(all?) commands don't like them for example a rename to replace <space> with underscore gives this:
Y:\STORAGE\HDD\Recordings>ren Instruments of Death.ts Instruments_of_Death.ts
The syntax of the command is incorrect.

If you enclose the filenames in quotes as here:
Y:\STORAGE\HDD\Recordings>ren "Instruments of Death.ts" "Instruments_of_Death.ts" then it works - note the use of /X to display the longname and the classic dos 8.3 format name.

Y:\STORAGE\HDD\Recordings>dir *.ts /X
Volume in drive Y is ROOT
Volume Serial Number is 2E0D-0350

Directory of Y:\STORAGE\HDD\Recordings

Hi peterk. Sadly the problem I (and I assume lil_honda123) have is not that simple. I am pleased you don't see the problem though, this really means that something is wrong with my receiver and it should be fairly simply resolved ??
I am running firmware level 2.11.11, I would be interested to know the level of firmware you have on your system.

The recordings were done under 2.11.16 . One odd thing I have noted is that the channel list downloaded from the box is according to PolarEditOctagon channel editor in the ISO 8858-5 Cyrillic character set (but that becomes "Russian" after char 160 decimal). I change the character set to UTF 8 only because it doesn't seem right not because I can see an error.
