Its a better box than the Ultimo when it comes to response and speed, setting up is the same as any other Vu+ box.

I have never had a Vu+ receiver before and the Solo 2 seems to be just right for me.
But obviously a few questions will be pertinent such as about Signal strength and also picture quality when compared with say a DM800.

£299 is a bit more that I was hoping but c'est la vie. I'll start putting some aside but it's gonna be after Xmas and based on my Uno experience it might be a good idea to wait it out a bit to see how many developers produce images for it. :respect-053: If it takes off like the original solo & duo then I'm definately in. :o11:
I got a 800SE for now which does all I want for now including runnning BH images :respect-054::number-one-043: but I hear rumours of new features coming that only the new boxes will be able to cope with.:

Signal strength is better and so is picture quality, I have not owned an 800 for a couple of years now but you can't really compare the two as they are leagues apart.

Ok
Solo = 333mhz (iirc) cpu, single fixed tuner
Duo = 405mhz cpu, 386mb ram, twin fixed tuner
Uno = 405mhz dual core cpu, 512mb ram, single pluggable tuner with blindscan, so can swap out tuner for sat, terestrial or cable, and soon twin tuner sat card avaliable.
Ultimo = 405mhz dual core cpu, 512mb ram, triple plugable tuners with blindscan, so can swap out 1,2 or all 3, mix and match the tuners as you wish (I have 3x dvb-s2 in mine), and soon there is twin tuner card, so you could have 4 tuners built in, and the large vfd display
Solo2 = 1.3ghz cpu, twin fixed sat tuners with blindscan (when the drivers are updated), 1gb ddr3 ram
Duo2 = 1.3ghz cpu, twin pluggable tuners with blindscan, 2gb ddr3 ram, vfd and lcd front panal displays, and built in wifi (all of which to be confirmed before launch as all specs can and are likely to change).

Glad your happy with it, I fancy getting 1 for the Ultimo, but need to sort out lnb's and cable runs first.
Just as a suggestion, I would use Tuner A for the fixed dish and Tuner B for the motor, as the default tuner is A to record from, and the box will naturally choose this as the tuner to record, unless you remember to change it in the settings everytime your reflash the box.

What exactly did you expect, the receiver is only a few days old and images only came out just over a week ago and already there has been 3 updates for it. I think everyone appreciates who buys new technology that there are teething problems in any new products infancy. I mean literally every A/V electrical product i own has some form of upgrade ability to improve its performance my 3D Plasma my A/V receiver are always being updated on a regular basis with firmware to improve performance.
It took almost 9 months to sort out the little niggles with the Tuners on the Uno and Ultimo but eventually they where fixed, I am sure you also understand that we are all beta testers for this box for the next few months in which time hopefully most of if not all the bugs will have been ironed out and resolved maybe then come back and update your so called review to reflect those changes.

Ok I wasn't going to waste my time in replying to your review, however after reading your pro's and con's at the bottom, I thought it was only right to correct a couple of points:
The bad:
- slow channel scan <<<<< Update your satellite.xml file and deselect network scan
- sometimes slow remote responses <<<<<< See next point
- sometimes remote commands are not accepted <<<<<< Not noticed this issue, maybe use some branded batteries instead of the ones supplied
- No dedicated PIP buttons, audio swap not supported <<<<<< the clue is in the name PIP = picture in picture
- fast forward in media player does not work properly <<<<<< fast forward isn't a media player issue it's to do with the file format encoding, if you use other formats then ff and rwd work fine, try the buttons 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and skip x amount of seconds instead
- poor DLNA implementation <<<<<< no comment never used it
- web browser can't play many Flash videos <<<<< no comment never tried it
- transcoding doesn't work <<<<<< Updated your image, transcoding to an iPad works just fine or iphone using dolpin webbrowser and activating the desktop option
- USB keyboard does not work <<<<< no comment as never tried to use it
- fails to tune in MSNBC at 15 West <<<<< Suggest you realign your dish, as I can pickup that transponder without any problems (71% signal), however it's called DAD-4 Fiber TX-11.
- remote control design could be improved <<<<< why fix something thats not broke, last time they tried (the Ultimo) they failed miserably

Yes I understand completely and I look forward to the process. My review describes the present state. I will be more than glad to write new reviews as issues are fixed and features added. Unfortunately I am a little sceptical lately when it comes to improving and adding new functionality by software upgrades after a device is released.

drhans with all due respect, nice review but I think you are slightly missing the point. Not going to criticise you but you have to be a little more rounded that's all.
The machine has barely come out and it has received as many updates in the same few days. As cokeaddict says try transcoding on BH 1.7.9 -3. Granted it's not perfect but it's a sign of things to come.
What this machine has over all else is it has come in at a price point that shakes up the whole arena, it muscles out their very own and highly successful Vu Duo in the bat of an eyelid and it has the power under the hood to cause 'waves' well into the future.
It's also the tantalising marriage of price, hardware and performance from a very well respected manufacturer. There is nothing to suggest this receiver is going to be anything other than an all out success. First impressions are it already is.

You could not get any one pz at all , From German Distributor who do some much noise about it..They did not have it and i can Guaranty ...They just advertise if they have it..their stock has arrived Saturday..This is From Main office of Korean in and Bond Warehouse in Holland .when all stock been send around Europe.
UK got them One day Delivery by TNT all just they was clear from Amsterdam. Germans was waiting for Pallets company need it 1-2 days delivery..
To clarity the stock has arrive 11 AM in UK to official Distributor for UK - Ireland and 2 dealers has come to collected their stock and maybe some end users too..The sponsor i think should have ready by Monday...
Please Support The Sponsor and not looking around for 1-2 days less and more mean no thing..

Well all i can say is 2 good friends in Germany had these last week so i dont think all of europe only got stock on Saturday the 22nd
By the way they ARE...even been on the Sticker of vu plus with the name of the official Company in UK.. until I decide to take off.
If you like i can show you even Agreement too of copy right..
My point being they are not manufactured here like most other products from Samsung,Sony,Panansonic mostly everything is imported and then someone has a good job of sticking a label on it.

No time machine mate. after 10 years in the game I know where to look ;-)
If I recall I was also the first to get the VU+Duo when it came out, its still going strong and is my main receiver in the living room.
Its not all been good I also bought a Cuberevo, aka ipbox9000 on the 1st day it came out and even though it cost over £350 the support was very poor and once PKT stopped it was dead for me and is now sat behind the sofa in the spare room. Shame really because the picture quality was one of the best I have seen.

Any one can write any thing on Forum, but that do not mean is true ,,,,I can tell for you 2-3 people to write they got one vu slo2 1.half months ago....
German dealers all ways Looking get free advertise even the part of Country they are not allowed ( after agreement they agree, between them and Vu plus. )
Just for people to let KNOW GERMANY CAN NOT SELL IN UK ... BECAUSE They have t Agree with VU PLUS Not sell UK and Ireland because in that Territory some one esle is EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTOR FOR VU PLUS.
IN UK AND R.IRELAND Ecxulisive Distributor is Vu Pus UK ( A L S A T ) not any German Dealers .
German could not misled any one they are Big and they can sell in their country and in Free zone of Europe according to Agreement.I am telling them Publicly stop tricking with threads GERMAN IS THE BEST AND THEY ARE FIST.. UK - R.Ireland THEY RE No Thing ...
and Becouse this forum is more UK people and Sponsor for UK I Recommande GOLD WAFER to buy Vu PLUS...The Sponsor.
And again i have some boxes from more then 1.half month again but still i repeat the real order in UK arrived Just date i Nominate and same for German too..
Even arrived 1 day less and more that's not do big differences Some one like gave imported to that by propose..What is really Importer is This Products is Nice product and SPONSOR HERE IS Official DEALER we all have to be respected and talk only what we buy here not advertise different distributor Like German or Belgium !
I can prom mes Germans i can sell 50 Euro cheaper less faster to their market if they start fighting and playing "Dirty with Time MACHINE and prices" in UK MARKET .....
Again to Member PLEASE buy From Sponsor..

Dear Mr. ++++
It was supposed that SOLO2 should be forwarded from Korea yesterday;
however, in the sampling outgoing inspection,
we found a mistake to mix the wrong component in the production line ( manual assembly line )
According we have no other choice but to check with every single set,
and the shipment should be delayed on Wednesday ( 12/19 )
Then.. we are very sorry to say that the local delivery can get started on next Thursday ( 12/20 )
We fully understand your urgent situation for delivery;
however, we have no other choice to delay the shipment,
and please kindly understand.
As soon as the goods are in Amsterdam, we will inform you of the local delivery.

I think the important thing is to buy authorised product and that will only come through the legit distributor supply chain as prescribed by VU.
The sponsor Goldwafers sells 100% legit product.
Of course some people will know 'where else to look'. That's just the way things are when you have a sought after newly launched product such as this.....and of course there are others who 'claim to know' but who probably still don't have it (guess there'll also be some clone recommendations soon enough)... take that all with a pinch of salt.
The important thing is to always buy from a reliable source. The value of that comes should anything go wrong and you need warranty. The cost of shipping it back abroad soon adds up.
At the end of the day it's a great receiver, there's no denying that. The Solo2 only shares its name with it's predecessor. It's extremely quick and more than anything it builds on the reputation and solid foundation of the Duo whose genes it more closely resembles.
Hope everyone who has one (or got visited by Santa) is enjoying it.

time this thread was closed as its only an argument about who got it first and why and when (one-upmanship)
all irrelevant now that stock has arrived to the OFFICIAL UK SUPPLIER (goldwafers)
personally, I dont give a **** who got it first or where from, but if I were buying one I would buy it from goldwafers
end of story
