I have read on here when flashing certain images to th dm 800 that a certain bootloader needs to be installed before atempting. How do I find out which bootloader I have??

When you first switch the box on it shows up in the display.

Excellent :O) So what would be the main reason for updating this then?? would it just be if it is compatible with certain images??

Depends on the SIM.

If you use the online update functionality, the latest bootloader will automatically be installed. You only need to care about bootloaders if your box is a clone.

Try this to see which bootloader you have installed

opkg list | grep secondstage

If you have a genuine box then you need SS84

Have a read here
http://www.dreamboxupdate.com/

Download the bootloader as nfi and flash via your browser.

The latest public secondstage version for your 800 is 84

Oops, sonic1 got me by a minute

So does the bootloader just make it more stable and can be flashed regardless what image is installed??

Do I type that via telnet in DCC?? also should the vertical line be a forward slash??

Telnet is good. The syntax is correct. It is called a pipe symbol and its usually under your backspace button

So does the bootloader just make it more stable and can be flashed regardless what image is installed??It can be flashed regardless which image is installed. This won't work the other way though. Latest images require having the latest bootloader installed. There are some changes which under certain cir***stances can make it more stable. If you check the changelog for version 84 you will see this
dm800, dm800se, dm500hd: added enhanced flash error correction (only used with new firmware images)

ok guys I have tried to telnet via DCC but nothing happening when I press run I have defo connected to the box. There are some tabs to the left called: mount, unmount, format, user script anyone any ideas?

ANDY1

ok I just pressed enter after I wrote the script and it says opkg: not found

Does that mean I defo need to download and install the new bootloader??

Booted the box up and looked at the display I have bootloader 75 - so I am now going to flash using the new bootloader suggested - now question is do I flash bootloader first or after I have put the new nemisis image on??

How much did you pay for your box?

ANDY1

I paid about £500 from gold wafers why?

To make sure you don't have a clone. You don't want to install the bootloader from dreamboxupdate to a clone.

Yeah glad I choose a genuine box really but thanks for checking! If I backup the image via the settings on the dreambox will I Defo be able to restore to what I had previously? Just scared incase I balls things up

Personally I only backup my emu configs. Never tried doing an image backup. Things can't go wrong.

That's a really good idea as Defo don't want to lose my config files. Thanks for your help
