OK, I admit I'm a little naive, although on the sat scene since D2MAC days, but still learning. What can I get from this stb that's a bonus from my DM800 which I'm thinking up of upgrading to a new stb because the power unit is on the way out. Any thoughts appreciated.

Best wishes from,

Gibson.

Main thing is Vu+ Has far better support these days, six months wait for DMM to fix an epg issue says it all.
Shame as I was always a massive DMM fan but its over priced and under supported these days.
The new Vu+ Solo2 will blow your socks off compared to your 800HD :D

Basically the dreambox has stopped evolving and the vu has much more potential.
And Vu has got exclsive support from blackhole team .

Dream Media got cocky and too arrogant for their own good no wonder I went for a VU+ receiver Dream Media lost a customer before they got one too bad I say.

Must agree with all the above, i've sold my DM8000 and DM800 and brought 2 V+Ultimo's
and have never been happier.

I think it's been pretty much said already:

Vu+ has more support, it's newer and therfore technically more advanced especially with the Solo2 and best of all it's cheaper too.

The Duo is a great box, but for the price difference you would be better off going with the Solo2 as the cpu is more than 3x faster and it also has 3x more ram and the box is also smaller and runs cooler too.

I struggled to get £180 for my original dm800 about 18 months ago, so no idea what it would fetch now tbh, you are prob better off keeping it in the back of the cupboard incase you ever want a 2nd box in the bedroom.

As for using it, pretty much the same, the only real difference is the way you flash the images onto the box, instead of using a crappy web browser you just put the image onto a usb stick, stick it in the front usb slot and reboot the box and press the button on front panel when the display tells you.

Got to say the spec on the VU+ Solo2 looks great.
I am looking at my VU+uno and DM800HD-se,which must go?
My fealing is get rid if the DM but the VU has a internal power suply and I prefere external, for cooler running and easier to change if fails.
The both work great just the solo2 is looking impresive.
Not sure if will make Xmas without ordering one.

2 years ago, I really wanted to update my dm800, BUT... I really didn't want to jump ship and ditch Dmm, as they were ment to be the best.

Anyhow in the end I thought sod it and bought a Duo (keeping the dm800 just incase I made the wrong move).

I can honestly say I was stupid, 1) for worrying that I would be getting something inferior, and 2) that I kept hold of the dreambox as in the 6 months I held onto it, the prices of them dropped big time.

I would say if your 800se it still worth ok money, get rid of it now, yes it's nice having external psu (something the solo2 has btw), but what use is that on a box that is becomming more and more obsolete by the day ?

The thing you will notice most between a DM800HD and a VU+Duo is the speed of operation. A VU+ reboot or restart GUI takes a fraction of the time compared with a DM and is comparable to a DM 800HDSE for considerably less money.

After a year with the Uno I'm back with an 800SE. Sadly the UNO did not get the image support the Solo & Duo have and now we have the Solo2 arriving so I didn't see that changing. Too late for me anyway as I sold my UNO to get the SE. Also had a Azbox ME. Great machine with great potential and IMHO all round better than the UNO ever was but sadly no serious development being done due to lack of demand and poor supply of drivers from openshyte. A real shame. Thanks Cokeaddict but from now on I'm sticking with what I know rather than a box that is reliant on teams patching Dreambox images.

At the end of the day I guess it's down to what floats one's boat but things are about to change radically so a move to a more higly specified STB is going to be a must which is why I'll wait and see how the Solo2 goes but can't see me being in a hurry to jump in at the moment.

PS: I'd have gone for a Duo or Solo had they not been so damned ugly. :)

PPS: Can't get my head around this "VU+ 2 Solo HD Twin Tuner Satellite Receiver" I thought the Solo only had one tuner which is why it was called the solo. :)

Confused bud, the Uno has exactly the same support as the solo and Duo

Blackhole left Dream to go and wholly support VU+ exclusively. Dream lost out and have been on a slippery slope ever since. On the other hand VU went from strength to strength.

You've also got other teams such as Vix. Their not on top of it like the BH team and are generally always a few steps behind as a result. All does not appear to be well in the Vix team supporting the Solo2 either. Recently they have increasingly headed into supporting other receivers away from VU.

Both Dream and VU make great receivers. Theres no doubt about that. However to continue to be successful you need Hardware + support. Dream got caught up in fighting the plague of the counterfeit market and their E2 then being used by all and sundry. In the meantime VU stole a steady march. The support for them has become massive.

The Solo2 is an awesome receiver, super fast and super slick. Pandora's box that should certainly cement VU as the defacto boxes of choice for now. It's packed with so much satellite know how it's hard to look past it. It's also pitched at a killer price point that puts the cat firmly amongst the pigeons.

In the battle of David vs Goliath we all know where that one ended up. VU have tossed their David into the ring, now we have to wait and see what Goliath will bring....

That's pretty good for a box that DMM states is at end of life so is no longer supported. :D
